Cats Protection

Rory has now been booked and will shortly be leaving us to take up residence in his new home at  Sheringham. Looking at his photograph when he arrived and one taken recently it is hard to believe this is the same cat. He is such a little character and we will miss him very much. His sister Lucie also has someone coming to see her and we are keeping our fingers crossed that she too will soon leave for a new home. Floosie not only had problems with her coat but she also had kittens to care for. These have all now been re-homed and Floosie is now waiting to give her a loving new home too. We do not think she will be with us too long.

Cats Protection

Our Head Office produces guides for cat owners which provide useful information to help care for your cat, "Essential Guides" and others which explain about health problems a cat may encounter, "Veterinary Guides". Space prevents us from bringing a selection of these to the monthly craft fair although they are generally on display at our major fund raising events. For example, the one titled "Cats and children" offers advice on how to ensure children know how to respect and care for their pets. Many people are concerned about owning a cat when they become pregnant and also how they will introduce their new baby to the resident feline. The guide covers the concerns that new parents will have and gives practical advice to ensure that all can live happily together.

Lots of people have cats prior to having a family and providing they follow the guidelines set out in the booklet, find the cat and baby will live happily together. Lesley, one of our foster mums, is a good example as she has had two babies since she started to look after the cats in care. Rene and older brother Rafe already understand that they must handle the cats with respect and new baby brother Sonny will learn from their example. We would emphasize that if you are considering giving a cat a home before starting a family and have any reservations about having a baby and cat in the same house, it is better not to have a cat at all. When offering a cat a home, it should be a lifetime commitment. Peoples circumstances do change and cats do require new homes but this is one instance where a little thought can prevent a lot of heartache.

A Close Run Thing!

North Norfolk Photographic Society (NoNoPS) welcomed Buxton Photographic Club on Wednesday 1st April to the annual Battle between the two clubs.

Also welcome was Derek Leak, who judged the contest. He is almost a member of the club now - he and his wife Judy gave an Audio-Visual presentation of their own pictures only a fortnight before. This time, though, his task was to judge 40 prints - 20 from each club.

At half-time, NoNoPS was ahead, but at the finish Buxton won by 156 to 154 marks: a very close finish indeed!

The next meeting of the Society will be the Society’s AGM at Loades Hall, Holt on Wednesday 15th April at 7.30 pm and visitors will be very welcome, but of course, not able to vote! The serious business will be lightened somewhat in the second half of the evening which is “Billed” as ‘Half an Evening with Bill Day’. Bill is quite irrepressible - sometimes unstoppable - and this is sure to be entertaining. Will half an evening be enough?

Further details of the Society’s activities and examples of members’ photographs can be found at www.nonops.org, the Society’s website - or ‘phone the Hon. Secretary Judy Knights on 01263 825418.

Foodie Town Quiz Night

Aylsham's reputation as a 'Foodie Town' gets a further boost on Saturday 25th April when the Slow Food Aylsham organisation hosts a food-themed quiz night at the Town Hall. The quiz will have a familiar format of eight rounds, plus a 'Marathon' but each question will have a link, sometimes very tenuous, with food and drink. Quizmaster and Slow Food Aylsham member Roger Willis gives a few clues: "The quiz is designed to be fun for everyone and the questions mostly just require general knowledge. But the food and drink theme runs all the way through, including rounds on music and entertainment."

To be part of the fun will cost just £3 per person and team tables are for up to six people. The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets, which include the cost of light refreshments, can be obtained from the 'Salad Days' fruit and veg stall in Aylsham Market Square on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. More details are on the Slow Food Aylsham website at www.slowfoodaylsham.org.uk

Excel 2000

Excel 2000 ‘Fitness and Fun’ class is now happily settled at Sheringham Community Centre on Tuesdays.

The class is 10.30-11.30 (£3.50) followed by “Time for a chat” and refreshments (50p). The Organisation is most grateful to St. Joseph’s for its hospitality and use of its lovely rooms over the past few months. However, now that the Excel 2000 Charity Headquarters is based at Sheringham Community Centre and the fitness session is expanding, we have moved the class to be under the same roof as the Charity’s office.

Facilities at the Centre are ideal for group initiatives, parties, health fayres, discos/dances, public meetings and outdoor activities. So, on fine warm days our class can enjoy activities on the grass if members so wish!

For further information please ring the Centre on 01263 822928, or for Excel 2000 classes, in Sheringham, West Runton and nearby please call 01263 825670.
