The charity are using this event to mark the first Break picnic as they are asking people to have their own Break Bears’ picnics throughout the year to raise funds for the charity.  Gillian Bolam, Head of Fundraising at Break said, “Break is one of Norfolk’s largest local charities.

We are launching the Break Bears because we believe that everyone likes teddy bears and they resonate with our caring brand image.”

Break provides a range of support services for vulnerable people throughout Norfolk, including homes for young people whose family lives have broken down; holidays, short breaks and day support for people with learning disabilities; residential assessments for families in crisis and volunteer mentor schemes.

Gillian added, “We hope that lots of people will come along to join us and enjoy the day of music and fun – there is something for everyone to get involved with. Don’t forget to bring your teddy!”

Entrance is £10 per car with all proceeds from the event going to Break – to book call 01263 822161.

National Blood Service

NBS looking for summer lifesavers

The National Blood Service (NBS) is asking people to give just an hour of their time to make a life-saving blood donation this summer.

A single donation of blood can be broken into three component parts (red cells, plasma and platelets) which means that your one donation can save or improve the lives of up to three people.

Alex Birley, spokeswoman for the NBS, said: "This is a time when many people will be taking holidays, attending summer sporting events or just enjoying the warmer weather at home. This can lead to poor attendance at blood donor sessions.

However, June 14th is World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) and commemorates the birth of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the ABO blood group system. It is the day when blood services across the globe say 'thank you' to volunteer blood donors for their help in saving lives. If you are a regular donor or if you have never given blood before why not come along to a session during June and help to celebrate the gift of life."

Existing donors can give blood every 16 weeks. If you are due to donate please do so as every pint is a potential lifeline to a patient in need of blood or blood products."

The NBS needs to collect 7,000 donations of blood every single day to supply hospitals in England and north Wales with the blood products needed to treat patients.

For more information about giving blood or to book an appointment please visit www.blood.co.uk or call our new donor line number on 0300 123 23 23.

To be potentially able to give blood you must be aged between 17-65, weigh over 7st 12lbs (50kg) and be in good health. However, there is no upper age limit for blood donation if you have donated in the last two years.

The Poppy Line

In a recent article in The Sunday Times, travel writer Stephen Bleach placed the Poppy Line second in his list of “Ten Best Train Trips in Britain” covering all the UK’s 100+ heritage and steam railways. He put a miniature railway first – the short 10 and a quarter inch gauge railway on the Isle of Mull in the Hebrides.

So Poppy Line offers the Best full-size Train Trip in Britain – as the picture from this scenic line shows.
