Norfolk Open Studios – New venue for popular contemporary artist Trevor Woods

The new Gallery Plus premises on the coast road in Wells-next-the-sea will be this year’s venue for Trevor’s Open Studio.

GALLERY PLUS Exhibition to 30th June
New light and airy contemporary gallery with work by Terry Bestwick, Graham Clarke, Jason Clarke, Beth Morrison, Josie Nudd, Michael Papworth, Trevor Woods & Simon Wright. Ceramics by Made in Cley, Zachary Eastwood-Bloom and Nicola Wright. Plus picture framing and Trevor Woods Contemporary Art Studio.

Trevor and his wife Jo opened Gallery Plus in April and the venue is already proving to be enormously popular, with an excellent selection of work by local artists and ceramicists and some from further afield.

Trevor’s work is on show and for sale both in the gallery and from his new studio where you can have the opportunity to join him for a coffee and have chat about his work, his background, the weather and probably cars too! He has lots of work in progress and you can see the process he goes through, from drawing out a picture and on to the initial application of paint, right through to the final black lines and finishing touches.

His strong graphic representations are winning him much acclaim, resulting in his paintings being commissioned and purchased for private collections in this country and abroad. The instantly recognisable scenes, painted using acrylic and ink, exclude the every-day clutter and branch the link between a distinctive modern style and familiar views. His fresh approach encourages the observer to look at every-day views in a new light; they are drawn to the clean lines, flat colours and dark shadows that make up each image. Every painting evolves from his ability to look at a view and then break it down into its raw elements; it’s more about what he leaves out than what he includes.

Trevor’s paintings often depict North Norfolk, but he also greatly enjoys the complete contrast of painting scenes from his foreign travels, as well as London and other city scenes; all of which provide an endless source of inspiration.

Gallery Plus is next to the enormously popular Big Blue Sky, just east of Wells on the A149 Coast Road towards Cromer, at the junction to Warham, Wighton and Walsingham. Customer car parking is available in front of the premises and on street nearby and the gallery is only a 10-minute walk from the town centre.
