THE DARK DAYS OF THE '40s COME TO LIFE AGAIN
The early 1940s. Military call-up. Rationing. Evacuees. The fear of
invasion. Air raids.
The Bulldog Spirit that saw us through the darkest days of the 20th century is celebrated
on the Poppy Line on September 19th and 20th at the famous '40s Weekend. Every station
will be protected against attack. Dads' Army troops will be practising their drill up and
down the line. Despatch riders will be out in force. GI Joes will be doing their bit
alongside our army, navy and air force lads. And civilians in typical period dress will be
doing their best to keep calm (and avoid black market spivs).
Wartime grub will recall the NAAFI. Music and dancing will testify to the strength of the
Bulldog Spirit. Steam trains will carry on regardless.
Come along in period dress and join the fun! Don't forget, you can buy '40s gear and
ephemera at the fleamarket by Holt station.
All day hop-on, hop-off Rover tickets are £13 adult, £12 senior citizen, £9 child 5-15

available for this event. Platform tickets at each station are £1 a head. And admission
to the Saturday evening party at Sheringham station is also £1 a head, food and drink
extra.
