Cats ProtectionAlthough we are not able to help every cat that needs to come into care we do try to help the most vulnerable ones, providing we have a space for them. Mandy, a little cat living in someone's garden, (wearing one of our collars to try and locate her owner) had 4 kittens before we had a space to take her in. She and the kittens are now in care. Rita, another young mum, was very thin and in a dreadful condition when she joined us with her three kittens. Mum and all three kittens have now all been booked and will be staying together.
We receive donations from new owners when the cats leave us for new homes, these do not cover all the costs we incur. Raising money to cover these costs is therefore an important and essential part of the work that our volunteers do. Cats and kittens in the area where fund raising takes place will therefore always be helped first, to ensure the money is spent in the area that it is raised. One of our major events, the Open Morning at Dilham, took place on 29th August where we raised £1184.45 for the cats. Our volunteers were there to man the stalls, put up and take down the party tents, provide cakes for our guests or donate goods for us to sell. All did a wonderful job and their help was very much appreciated.
One special guest was Magic Merlin, a lovely Maine Coone cat who enjoyed the attention he received while his owner was manning the Tombola stall. Being used to attending Cat Shows (as a Champion of course) he was the perfect gentleman. We also had a visit from Rory's new family and were delighted to receive a progress report plus some beautiful photographs. A letter plus photographs from his companion Lucy's new owner the next week makes us realize why we find the work we do so rewarding.

North Norfolk Photographic SocietyA Visit from Tom MackieNorth Norfolk Photographic Society (NoNoPS) were honoured to spend an evening with world famous landscape photographer, Tom Mackie on Wednesday, 9th September. Tom illustrated his talk with many of his photographs, many of which have appeared in magazines and brochures.
Members were taken in these images to the USA, to Spain, to the Caribbean and even to Cley! One of Toms published books is called Photos with Impact - and there was plenty of evidence in his work to show exactly what he means. Thanking the speaker, Club Secretary Judy Knights had only one word - Wow! The next meeting of the Society will be on Wednesday 23rd September at Loades Hall, Holt at 7.30 pm when Marjory and Tony Furmston FRPS will gave a talk plus PhotoShop Tips. Visitors will be very welcome. Further details of the Societys activities and examples of members photographs can be found at www.nonops.org, the Societys website - or phone the Hon. Secretary Judy Knights on 01263 825418. Readers LetterI note with interest the letters in the NN news 10th Sept. Why do people writing in have to get personal about comments made. Surely the argument must be what is good for the town, I believe that the town is split and it is time that good reasons for and against should be printed so that all the Sheringham and district can make up their minds as to what they want to see in the town. Whether something is spelt correctly or not or if Tesco said that other ventures proposed for the town were laughable is a complete waste of every bodies time. The Protesc group was set up to give those people who wanted Tesco in the town to have a say that does not mean that we do not support Sheringham so comments made by Mr Wiles do not help the situation. The holiday maker did not say where he came from or where he shopped but for the people of Sheringham who live here we do need a good retail store and as far as I can see Tesco is going to give us just that. I like to read comments in the NN regarding this but please give us facts and reasons for or against, Just because you so not agree with a different point of view does not make that view wrong. Larry, who joined us
recently from a vets, was not improving despite receiving treatment for his coughing and
sneezing, so it was decided that he should have an exploratory operation. The vets
discovered he had severe scarring of his lungs, probably genetic. While on the operating
table he 'arrested' and had to be revived. His condition is being monitored very carefully
and we will keep you advised of his progress.
