Mini Masterpiece Exhibition Set to Take Art on the Move

A hundred and thirty original postcard-sized works by North Norfolk-based artists were on show at Sheringham Little Theatre on Monday (October 5), as part of a new scheme aimed at promoting the area's wealth of artistic talent.

North Norfolk Artspace, which was set up 3 months ago by North Norfolk News reporter Karen Bethell, offers affordable exhibition space at the theatre, while the scheme's website, provides a comprehensive resource for artists, galleries and art-lovers.

The site lists details of local galleries, as well providing information about art classes and courses, upcoming exhibitions, art-orientated news, and useful links to galleries’ websites and other art-themed sites.

Artists signing up to have a profile on the website are also invited to take part in a "Travelling Art Scheme", which, from November, will see work currently on offer at local galleries and artists' studios showcased at non-gallery venues, including hotels, shops and restaurants.

"After the fantastic response I had to the postcard exhibition, I came up with the idea of taking artists' work on tour," Karen said. "The idea is to offer people an opportunity to buy small, affordably-priced original artworks, but hopefully also to encourage them to visit some of north Norfolk's many galleries and artists' studios."

The Royal College of Art-style "secret" exhibition, which runs until November 1st, will feature framed works by local artists, whose identity will not be revealed until after the work is sold.

Contributors range from top selling artists Brian Lewis, Brian Ryder and June and Alwyn Crawshaw, to Professional Photographer of the Year, David Morris of Cromer and 7-year-old Holt art prodigy Kieron Williamson.

Also on show will be work by 5 members of RoaR Art, an organisation set up in 1996 to promote artwork made by people with learning disabilities from the Barrington Farm Community at Walcott.

"I am really looking forward to the exhibition, and I am very grateful for the tremendous amount of support I have had for the scheme from local artists and gallery owners," Karen said.
