Breakfast with Slow Food

Slow Food Aylsham, a branch of the international Slow Food movement, is inviting members of the public to a 'Big Slow Breakfast' on Sunday 7th February. The Breakfast, which will be at 11.00am in the Friendship Hall in Aylsham, is a "get to know you" event with the opportunity to find out more about Slow Food and its activities.

Breakfast with Slow Food

Slow Food Aylsham is the not-for-profit organisation which runs the annual Aylsham Food Festival and its leader, Liz Jones, says they are planning a series of other events this year. "The Food Festival in the autumn always includes a Big Slow Breakfast", she says, "but we thought this year we would help banish the winter blues with an earlier, additional event, also giving people the chance to discover what Slow Food is all about."  The traditional English breakfast (with a vegetarian option) will of course feature locally produced ingredients and it will be prepared by members of Slow Food. The cost is just £4 per person or £14 for a family of four with two children under 12 and tickets are available from Salad Days fruit & veg stall in Aylsham's Market Square. Numbers for this event are strictly limited so early booking is advisable.

Your benefits, your rights

Many North Norfolk people could be missingout on council tax and housing benefits, because they don’t think they would be eligible.

Now a new awareness-raising campaign is about to begin, with promotional posters and further information about benefits in doctors’ surgeries, voluntary organisations’ and housing associations’ offices, and with visits by the North Norfolk District Council Benefits Help and Advice Team to schools, council events, and club and local community group meetings.

The campaign — Your Benefits, Your Rights — began on Monday 18 January.

Community groups or other organisations that would like a presentation or visit from the Benefits Help and Advice Team can contact them on (01263) 516245 or benefits@north-norfolk.gov.uk Individual customers can also book face-to-face meetings with the team, either at NNDC’s Cromer office or at a meeting place like a local library or community area. Or if the customer has difficulty getting to one of these places a home visit can be arranged.

In 2009, North Norfolk District Council’s Benefits Help and Advice Team helped 728 extra households to claim housing and council tax benefit, and gave advice and help to more than 1200 people claiming benefit. The team also advises on Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Carers Allowance, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance and Incapacity Benefit.
