Carnival time is almost upon us and now is the time for you all to get
your floats, fancy dress and prams ready for the big days.
This year promises to be the biggest and the best Carnival in Sheringham
since the good old days of the Rec'.
We have got something for everybody to enjoy this year. Duck races,
Strongman, Battle of the Bands, Live Music every evening. A fancy Dress dance at the
Sheringham Social Club, so you can make your costume and then take part in the parade on
Saturday 7th August - two for the price of one!
We kick off on Friday 30th July with the disco to choose our Carnival
Prince and Princess. Saturday and we have the Carnival Car Boot and our old
favourite, the Brass Band Concert.
Sunday 1st August is Opening Day and is full of activities for all the
family. We begin with a refreshing and hilarious Bikini Dip. We are asking
everyone to come along dressed in their bikinis, yes, men too!! The perfect way to
wake you up in time for all the days events. The day includes dogs, donkeys, clowns,
bonny baby and of course the Crowning of our new Carnival Queen, the evening finishes with
music from Kick the Can on Lifeboat Plain.
On Monday and Tuesday you can enjoy everything from sandcastle building to
rambling, cricket to darts and all topped off with a concert by our very own Shantymen.
Carnival Day on Wednesday 4th August sees the return of Ant-e-Static, not
as Nelson this year, but as Charlie Chaplin. The streets will be packed with things
for you to do. There is street entertainment, stalls, Battle of the Bands and the
Talent Show. The children's' fancy dress will parade through the town from Lifeboat
Plain to the main car park where the fun and frivolity of the Town Races will be held.
Make a non-motorised vehicle and come along to Station Road Car Park and we will
find someone for you to race against. Beware though of the Water bombs and squirty
bottles. Spectators - don't come in your best dress, you are likely to get very wet.
All we ask is that spectators throw nothing but water. If anything else is
thrown, then we will be unable to hold the races next year. Their fate is in your
hands. Finish your night off with The Lee Vasey Big Band at the Crown.
Thursday we have events throughout the day including the
Carnival Flower & Produce Show, Dance the night away to Boogie Fever at the Carnival
Fancy Dress or Join us on Lifeboat Plain for the Barley Mow Ceilidh Band.
Friday the Carnival Flower & Produce Show
continues, you can race your ducks or join us on a Ramble, we have prize
presentations and in the evening we will be entertained by the winners of the Battle of
the Bands competition.
Saturday 7th is our big day with events on both the
Sports Ground and on Cookies Car Boot Field. On the Sports Ground from 10am - 4pm we
have junior football, strongman competition, Ancient Armouries Longbows and skateboarding.
Cookies Field sees a plethora of entertainment to suit all ages, including
Junk Costume Making & Fashion Show, Carnival Challenges, Alternative Carnival
Queen (come on you lads). majorettes demonstrations and live music all day. The
Carnival Parade leaves the Common at 6.30pm and will parade through town and end up on
Cookies Field, where there is a full evening of entertainment including the Fireworks
Display followed by Music from The Buster James Band accompanied by disco "All Night
Long" from Proud Nightclub, Camden Town.
2010 Carnival finishes on Sunday 8th August with
Sheringham Classic Car & Bike Festival, the presentation of the Barry Horner Memorial
Trophy "Spirit of Carnival" and the Children's' Boat competition.
Then we can begin all over again, preparing for
Carnival 2011.
Pick up a programme from various places around the
town and take a look for yourself. Daily Posters will be put up as we are still
adding to the events. |
