400 POLICE OFFICERS IN CROMER

On 14th March 2007 four hundred police officers will descend on Cromer to compete in the National Police Cross Country Championships. The event is being held in Happy Valley and this will be the first time the race has been held in the county. The event has been organised by police commander Chief Insp Steve Jones, who himself is a keen long distance runner and can regularly be seen running around his home town of North Walsham in the early hours of the morning. Last year the Championships were held in Perranporth, Devon and Cornwall and volunteers were sought for 2007. In 2005 Norfolk Constabulary won the minor forces category in Newcastle and again finished in top spot with a win in Perranporth. “It would be fantastic if we could take the title for the third time, especially as the race is on our home patch. Steve offered Norfolk as a venue at which colleagues laughed at the suggestion because the county was deemed to be flat and therefore the course would not be too difficult to get around! At the conclusion of the race Steve will fly out to Australia as he will be competing in the World Police and Fire Games which is the equivalent of the Olympics. The City of Norwich athlete will compete in the 10,000 Metre Cross Country race (four days after the race in Happy Valley!) and one week later the half marathon.

Steve does not have a sponsor for the Police Games and would be grateful for any support given to the trip for Australia and can be contacted on 01692 401045

Sheringham Warriors U12s 7 v 1 Sheringham Youth U12s

Sheringham Warriors entertained local rivals Sheringham Youth on what was a lovely day for football. The Warriors dominated the opening exchanges, going close on a number of occasions. The Warriors opened the scoring when the ball dropped for Shane Cox to volley into the roof of the net. Sheringham Youth were battling hard and got a goal back, but Jacob Knowles received the ball down the left wing and hit a vicious shot which the keeper could not prevent going into the goal for the Warriors to retake the lead. When Sheringham Youth did push forward they found Tom Harrison, Tommy Bywater, Tom Fleming and Ali Burghall in their usual resilient form nullifying most of Sheringham Youth's attacks. At half time it was 2-1 to Sheringham Warriors.
In the second half the Warriors stepped up the pace using the flanks well with Tom Harrison and Will Parker working well on the right and Ali Burghall and Jacob Knowles doing the same on the left. Shane Cox then made it 3-1 with a good strike past the keeper. Jodi Norris then got on the score sheet with a good finish, Will Parker then made it 5-1 this capped a good game for him as he had worked really hard for the team. The Warriors were now playing really well with Cameron Humphrey and Josh Glister going close on a number of occasions. Daniel Beasy was put into midfield and sprayed some lovely passes around. Harry Carrington was as industrious as ever working hard for the team. James Mitchell came on and gave an assured performance. John Reynolds in goal was in good form turning in a decent performance. The Warriors were now looking dominant with Sheringham Youth struggling to contain their players, Jacob Knowles was running riot down the left flank and capped another superb performance with two more cracking left foot strikes to get his third hat trick in as many weeks, this capped off another brilliant team performance by the Sheringham Warriors. The game finished 7-1 to Sheringham Warriors.
