CATS PROTECTION

Seven cats recently came into care from one household, their ages ranging from 1 year to 13 years. Apart from Otto, a 2-year-old black male, all had been neutered. Otto has now been neutered and he, together with Socky, (a 1-year old black and white female), have already left us for their new home after having their first vaccination. Two five-year-old cats, Garfield (ginger and white, male) and Phoebe (black and white, female) both had throat infections, so were unable to have their first vaccinations and are both now on a course of antibiotics. Lucy (5-year-old friendly black female) was in good health and able to have her first injection. Tigger, (10 years old, tabby, male), was very thin so was blood tested for FELV, FIV and hyperthyroidism. These tests all came back negative but indicated that he was anaemic. He was able to have his first injection but will have another blood test when he goes back for the second one. If he is still anaemic, further tests will be required to identify the problem. We will keep you informed of his progress. Floyd, (13-year-old fluffy black male) was also very thin and had numerous scabs on his body especially on his back, which his vet confirmed were caused by a flea allergy. He was tested for FELV and FIV and we were pleased that he too had negative results. He also required a scan as the vet thought he might have fluid in his chest cavity, which could indicate a serious problem. Fortunately this also proved to be negative. He now needs dental treatment but this has been deferred until he is stronger.

The five remaining cats have all been treated for fleas and worms and are now receiving lots of tender loving care from Sharon.

BENJAMIN COURT

Conservatives join local people marching through Cromer to protest at the lack of Government support for community hospitals.

Save Benjamin Court, Cromer

Trevor Ivory, the Conservative Spokesman for North Norfolk, today joined fellow Conservatives and local people on a march through Cromer to protest at the proposal to shut Benjamin Court, the town's much loved community hospital.

Braving the rain to support the campaign, Trevor said, "Benjamin Court is just one of the many hospitals up and down the country that are threatened by Gordon Brown's NHS cuts.

It is disgraceful that in the week that he presented yet another tax raising budget people are forced onto the streets to defend their local NHS.

Benjamin Court and the other community hospitals in North Walsham and Holt are all under threat. Staff face redundancy and patients are concerned about being forced to choose between being stranded in Norwich or trapped in their own homes waiting for their daily visit.

This is simply unacceptable."
