GARDENING
Know your Onions.
There are few crops more important on the gardener's list than onions. In the kitchen,
they are one of the most versatile and necessary vegetables, being used for many everyday
meals including soups, pies and stir frys. Onions will store almost until the new crop is
ready to harvest and are essential in any self-respecting vegetable plot. Simple to grow,
they along with shallots can keep your kitchen supplied almost all year round.
SHERINGHAM CARNIVAL
Well it's coming up to that time of year again, when pubs, clubs and
families are getting together and planning their Carnival entries. The Carnival Committee
is working hard already to make all the arrangements, organise the events and pray for
good weather. Mind you, if last year is anything to go by, even torrential rain will only
put it off a few days, it came back bigger and better and many of us float makers were
heard to cry 'Thank God' for duct tape! We do like to have a good time in this beautiful
town of ours and to share it too. To join in the Carnival, all you have to do is
attend, but with a little effort you can be part of it. Local charity shops abound with
items of clothing that can turn you into anything from a hippie to the Queen. Costumes do
not have to be elaborate or take hours to make. Those in the photo below won no prizes,
but most were found in our wardrobes, yes, I did have a bright orange jacket lurking in
the depths! The fun we had that day on the parade, the smiles, the cheers and general
goodwill is difficult to match. I can't wait for this year.

If you have time and Internet access, take a look at the newly re-vamped Carnival Web
Site, www.sheringhamcarnival.co.uk,
flick through the photographs of the past carnivals and remember the fun we as a town have
had over the years. There is a new section on there for Sheringham Accommodation, we
get several emails every year asking where to stay, so we decided to put a page on. If you
want to advertise on there, give us a call at Norfolka2z on 01263 826005 email: Sheringham Carnival for more information.

International Speech Contest Winners
The sheer terror and anxiety experienced when having to get up and speak
to a group of strangers is a familiar feeling to many. You doubt yourself, your words and
your audience. This fear is not something that only affects the shy and unconfident.
There is a local club, part of the International Toastmasters organisation, who have
helped many people overcome this fear, the North Norfolk Speakers who meet in North
Walsham.

Two members of the club won awards on Monday at the Toastmasters Area
International Speech and Evaluation Contest and will now go forward to the next round.
Sheila Merriman won the Evaluation Contest and Andrew Brammer won the
Speech Contest for the Norwich Club.
They will now go forward to the division contest at Peterborough on April
14th were they will compete against contestants from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire,
Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Suffolk.
This is the second year running that Sheila has won the Evaluations trophy
and the third year running that Andrew has won the Best Speech trophy.
Andrew, a founding member of the North Norfolk Speakers said, I feel privileged to
watch new members overcome the terror of public speaking.
At our meetings you can feel safe to learn, to gain confidence and to
achieve your speaking goals. The members are friendly, the meetings are fun and
evaluations are done with gentle consideration.
Sheila said, anybody who comes to Toastmasters for any length of time will build
confidence and end up a better speaker.
The club meets in Mobile Classroom J1, Paston College Lawns Site, Park Lane on alternate
Wednesdays at 6.30. The next meeting is on 25th April. For further information contact
