CATS PROTECTION
Sadly, Tigger, the cat causing us concern, died before tests to discover his problem
had come back. The tests indicated he had coccidiosis, which is an internal parasite.
Although kittens often die from this, it does not usually happen with older cats. However,
he was not a fit cat when he joined us.
Because there was a possibility the other cats still with Sharon may have been
infected, they all needed treatment. They had to be weighed, to enable the vet to work out
how much medicine each cat required, and the medicine had to be administered by syringe.
As the cats did not like the taste, or the syringe, Sharon has had quite a difficult task,
and she was very relieved when they completed the course. All cats are now much better
although Floyd still has to have his dental work, which was deferred while he was being
treated.
Already this year we have had several more requests to take in cats from multi-cat
households. Some of these have already come into care and some have gone to other rescue
groups. Their owners have all realised they have too many cats and can no longer care for
them properly. The owners had one thing in common; they wished they had been sensible and
not taken on so many animals.
It is far better to have one or two animals and be able to look after them properly, as
it is a lot harder to hand them over to someone else when you realise you cannot cope.
Please think carefully before taking on another pet as caring for an animal properly can
be very expensive.
If you are looking for a cat please call Stephanie on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can

for a description and photographs of the cats before giving her a call on the above
number.

Big C Walk of Thoughts - Walking Together to Support and Remember
Big C, local cancer charity for Norfolk and Waveney, has once again organised their
special 'Walk of Thoughts' and is inviting people to join them in walking together to
support and remember cancer sufferers at Somerleyton Hall and Estate on Sunday 24th June.
The walk is about friends, family and colleagues coming together to remember loved
ones, many feeling the walk gives time for reflection and thought, whilst also being a fun
day out which helps to raise valuable funds to ensure better cancer care facilities in
Norfolk and Waveney. Last years walk raised a phenomenal £18,000 which has already helped
to make a BIG difference to those affected by cancer in our area and the charity hope to
beat this amount this year.

Walking from the front of Somerleyton Hall itself (near Lowestoft), the 6 mile (9.6km)
route takes participants through otherwise private woodland of Somerleyton Estate,
offering wonderful and secluded views of Fritton Lake and passing across beautiful and
tranquil countryside. As an added incentive for walkers to get to the finish line,
Somerleyton Hall is offering discounted entry to the Hall and Gardens for all
participants. Entrants will be given a commemorative ribbon to wear during and
following the walk and those who wish to can make special dedications to those they are
walking for on a dedication tree at the start of the walk (picture attached). Dedications
from last years event can be read at www.thebigcappeal.co.uk/walkofthoughts.php.
The walk is marshalled from 10am to 4pm with the last walkers being able to depart at
1.30pm. First aid support is also on site for walkers safety and refreshments are
available. If you would like to take part in this event then Entry Forms and further
information are available from Hannah Chroston, Community Fundraising Manager at the Big
C, on 01603 619900,
by e-mail at enquiries@thebigcappeal.co.uk
