GARDENING
It seems everything needs to be done in the garden once May comes around. You need to
water regularly if it doesn't rain and water newly planted plants even if rain is
predicted. Also deadhead spring blooming bulbs, but let the foliage grow until it yellows.
To keep your colours deadhead and begin replacing pansies and primroses as the flower
fades. Divide crowded perennials and make sure tall perennials are staked.
Many seeds can now be sown directly into the ground outside. Remember though that when the
seedlings start to sprout effective slug control is crucial!

Readers Letter
Readers should beware of human cuckoos -you know - the ones that dump their rubbish in
your wheelie bins, especially those that do not discriminate between recyclable and
non-recyclable rubbish. Remember, you could be charged if you do not meet the recyclable
quota once your bins are 'chipped'. I believe that if you are charged by the Council you
should challenge them to produce the physical evidence as proof. Then you may be able to
prove that some of it was dumped by a third party. This of course puts the onus of proof
on the Council. It would be interesting to see what would happen in a court of law. Even
more interesting is proving guilt where many homes share the same bins.

French Conversation Meetings
Since there are a number of Twinning Associations with French towns in this area, I
feel that we are sadly lacking in having French Conversation meetings on the lines which
French people have. Ie Near to Toulouse there are meetings once or twice a month with
people who are interested in improving their English. The Cromer Learning Centre indicate
that they have had a number of enquiries about French Language classes and suggested that
I write to @ Sheringham.
Is anyone interested in having French Conversation meetings in the North Norfolk area? I
would, initially, be prepared to hold meetings in my house in Roughton either once or
twice a month, on one afternoon or evening. Cromer Learning Centre are also prepared to
take names of people who would be interested and future meetings could possibly be held
there. If anyone is at all interested in getting together, please contact me either by
email on margaretparrish2003@yahoo.co.uk
or by telephone on 01263 512 326. Margaret Parrish (Mrs)
Chibber Review by Tim Jefferson
I decided to cover a new band at "The Crown" called Chibber. They're a
guitar-based band covering modern rock. They've gigged quite a bit including the
prestigious "Brickmaker's" on Sprowston Rd., Norwich as well as things like
Wells Carnival. They're currently planning a C.D. to include some of their own material.
Their line up is: guitar/vocal,bass/vocal,keyboard/vocal and drums. Like a lot of bands
their first set was a little slow for an audience keen to dance but their second set put
that straight. They included Fufighters, Cranberries and Snow Patrol as well as old
standards by Bad Company, Thin Lizzy and Fleetwood Mac. They played well. They were tight
and fun and certainly popular with the crowd. The Keyboard was good. So often rock bands
ruin the hard edge of their sound by letting the keyboard do too much. It's rather like
looking at a Rottweiler only to realise it's a dressed up French Poodle. The Keyboard
player added depth and the correct amount of colour. She was a good singer too. All told I
enjoyed their gig and they were a nice bunch. Well worth a look. timjefferson@freeuk.com |
