Sheringham
& District Branch, The Royal British Legion
The Sheringham Branch of the Royal British Legion held its Annual Dinner at the
Dunstable Arms, Cromer Road, Sheringham on Friday 30th March. We were pleased to host 36
members, wives and friends at this new venue. To use the old saying the tables really did
"groan with the amount food upon them." What was of great satisfaction to me
sitting beside Mrs.Bunty Farrow the Social secretary and main organiser of this and many
other events, was the general "bonne homie" that was coming up from each and
every table as the occupants chatted so freely among themselves, which indicated to me and
many others, the satisfaction with the excellent food supplied by Craig at the Dunstable
and the cosiness of the venue. Many Members have contacted me, to favourably comment upon
the the quality and quantity of the food supplied, all seemed so relaxed, something that I
have not seen in many a long year. Les Collings carried out his smooth raffle; to
earn the Branch a little money to be able to continue to help to with the work of the
Branch. On a more sober note please be good enough to remember that should you know
of any of our less fortunate comrades that are in need of help, let Paul Clarke 01263
588840 or Tom O'Mara 01263 513179 know so that they can deal with their needs if they
possibly can. Meetings the first Monday of the Month at 7.30pm except May, August and
December at the Dunstable Arms, Cromer Road, new members always welcome. Please remember
that you do not have to be ex-service to join the branch, so if you would like to help the
ex-service community, please come along. Tom Pyne, Chairman, Sheringham Branch Royal
British Legion
BREAK CHARITY WANTS TO GIVE YOU £100!!
A locally based Norfolk charity has turned the art of fundraising on its head and is
looking for 100 individuals, entrepreneurs or groups to give £100 to! The 100 Day
Challenge starts from 1st May and BREAK is looking for Challengers to take
part from now! The winner of the challenge will receive £1,000 prize money to spend as
they wish (sponsored by Lloyds TSB).
Alan Leedham, Fundraising Manager said, It sounds very controversial that we, as a
charity, are giving out money to the general public, but we are going into this Challenge
with the aim of getting far more than just the £100 back from competitors in fact
whoever raises the most money will walk away with £1,000 prize money, sponsored by Lloyds
TSB, to spend as they wish! We will be staying in close contact with all of our
Challengers; ensuring that they are keeping motivated and enjoying what they do, whilst
making sure that they are not doing anything that would be considered detrimental! We hope
that this challenge will capture peoples imaginations we have made some
suggestions about what people could do with their £100, from buying garden or car washing
equipment, ingredients for cakes or dinner parties. These are just a few of what could be
an endless supply of ideas. So if youve had a burning desire to try out a venture
and want a way to give it a go and make a difference, this could be your chance. All the
funds raised from the 100 Day Challenge will go towards supporting our special care
services, in particular our supported holidays and respite care for people with
disabilities. The strain of caring for a loved one with disabilities doesnt go away,
in fact it lasts a lifetime. By taking part you will be supporting the on-going work of
BREAK and ensuring that our services also last a lifetime too." To take part please

Readers Letter
I am writing in the hope that one of your readers may be able to help me in my search
for a particular piece of Sheringham pottery. Many years ago my parents bought me a
souvenir vase from their Norfolk holiday in the shape of a 'lady wearing a picture hat'
and when you added a few flowers it looked as if she was carrying a bouquet.
Unfortunately, I have lost it and would dearly like a replacement (or two)!
I appreciate that the pottery has now closed but wonder if anyone locally may be able
to help. I noticed in a back issue of your paper that one of the former owners reads your
paper and wonder if she has a picture of the vase so I could perhaps get one made. I'm not
sure though about the ethics of copying such an item? I would be very grateful for any
information you can offer. Thank you. M. Underwood
(Please contact the paper if you can help)
