CATS PROTECTION

It is hard to believe how callous some people can be. While waiting to see the vet recently, someone saw a couple release a young cat in the car park. They immediately reported this to the girls on reception, but unfortunately the cat was nowhere to be seen. As the vets are on a very busy road they were very concerned for the cat's welfare and advised us of the situation in case he was handed in to us. The following evening as Angie, one of the girls on reception, was leaving to go home, she saw the cat sitting on their doorstep and immediately picked him up and took him inside. After a thorough check by the vets we were contacted again, this time to see if we could help by taking him in. Fortunately we were able to help as a new fosterer, Marion, had rung to advise us her pen was now ready and she was looking forward to having her first cat. Shelley, another young lady at the vets, delivered Gangster to us, and this very lucky and attractive 6-month-old fluffy lad, is now looking for a new and caring home.  Suzie, one of our older cats, has now taken up permanent residence with Sue who fostered her. We are also delighted to advise you that not only has Floyd, the 13-year-old Persian X, left us for a new home, but also Andy the 12-year-old lad who had his thyroid glands removed last year. Andy went for a check shortly before he left us and David his vet said he was now in excellent condition. He was such a character and we will certainly miss him.  If you are looking for a cat please call Stephanie on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit http://www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving her a call on the above number.

North Norfolk Cats Lifeline Trust News

After the great success of our recent clairvoyance evening, which raised £400 for our funds, we are looking forward to our next event. This is our Summer Sale to be held on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Methodist Hall, Cromer Road, Sheringham, 9:30 a.m - 12.00 noon. Admission 50p or a tin of cat food. All kinds of stalls, tombola, raffles and refreshments. Bargains galore!  We have recently taken in several cats from loving homes. In each case their caring owners have had to move, only to find they may not take their pets, who are content, old and well loved. This causes great distress to the families, and also their animals. It is becoming the norm, when renting, that pets, and often children are banned. We have three lovely cats who have lost their homes in this way and are healthy and affectionate. They are older cats - SOOTY is black, she was a stray and is now 14 years old. STRIPEY is a tabby, she is 8, while her long time friend JEMIMA (torti/tabby) is 7. These two must be homed together. Can you help? Please contact me on 01263-822560. Gay Rees

Norwich Union employees replace pens with paint brushes!

On 20th April, John Kennedy, Head of Finance for Norwich Union and his finance colleagues put down their pens for a day and kindly put their overalls on to decorate BREAK Charity's Rainbow Holiday Centre in Sheringham. On a previous trip to France whilst attending a course, John saw a French Children’s Hostel helped successfully by people offering their time and efforts! Realising how rewarding a little help can be to charity, he rallied the troops and arranged to have a day decorating the dining room, play room and garden fences at BREAK's Rainbow Holiday Centre in Sheringham. The day was also an opportunity for a fairly new finance team to do some team building and have some time together away from the office. BREAK provides a range of specialist services for children, adults and families with special care needs. This help includes supported holidays, short breaks and respite care for people with learning disabilities. Rainbow Holiday Centre offers guests a seaside holiday with outings and attractions, whilst their families and carers take a well earned rest from the strains of full time caring. John Kennedy, Head of Finance, Norwich Union said, "This was a joint venture, a chance to help people in the community who really need our support as well as team building. The existing finance team are fairly new and this was an opportunity to bond whilst benefiting others! We have all had a fantastic day; it has been really enjoyable, which is good for BREAK and our team!!"

Norwich Union employees help Break Charity in Sheringham

Clive Caterall, Health and Safety Officer, BREAK said, "We can’t thank John and his team enough, they have done an amazing job of decorating Rainbow, we couldn't wish for any more from them! To decorate this centre, we would have to employ personnel and even close the centre for a period; this would mean that families miss out on their break. By having a large team of volunteers, we have cracked the painting in one day and caused no real disruption-in fact the guests loved having some visitors in!"
