The Red Hart Inn, Bodham

This traditional village pub raised £282.93 for the Air Ambulance by holding an Easter Egg raffle and asking all their patrons to donate their loose change. Several of the villagers went along to the Air Ambulance in Norwich to present the cheque and take a tour of the hanger and have a look at the Air Ambulances on site.

The Red Hart donates to Air Ambulance

The Red Hart was taken over by Carole and Leanne in February this year and is going from strength to strength. The pub has a range of Real Ales and Fine Wines alongside the more traditional pub tipples. The pub also serves an ever-changing menu of Home Cooked meals with desserts to die for, all excellent value. It is family and dog friendly and they pride themselves on good service and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. With the newly refurbished pergola for outside drinking and dining, why not come along and socialise 'alfresco'.

As one of the few community pubs left, the Red Hart is working hard to maintain its position as a vibrant centre for the community, a place to socialise, and also to help boost the village fundraising projects. With so many of the British traditions disappearing, come along, have games of darts or shove halfpenny, chat, dine or just enjoy a pint.

To keep up with the times WIFI is also available, so you can enjoy the peaceful country setting and still keep in touch with the office!

The function room is available for hire all year round and has seating for approximately 60 people for a delicious catered event and there is a large car park available for customers. There are a range of events planned, please contact 01263 588270 for information.

Readers Letter

After reading yet another letter forecasting doom and gloom over Tesco`s moves to build a supermarket in Sheringham I find myself really torn between the pros and cons of this situation. However, as a mother of three boys which takes a lot of feeding, hence shopping, I have to point out my opinion as a daily shopper in Sheringham. Firstly, I am lucky that I am a full-time mother and have time to shop within the town. I do have a car yet I make a conscious decision to use the local shops. But the simple fact is that I do need to make trips to Cromer or North Walsham and sometimes Fakenham in order to stock up on items I cannot purchase in the town. I have lived in Sheringham all of my life and have seen changes in the town, some positive and some negative. (Who would have believed that we would have a large betting shop in the middle of the town?) Sheringham does not benefit from this, perhaps a few, but it doesn`t make common sense. However we do need a larger supermarket so shoppers do not have to go out of town. I personally do not buy my meat, bread or vegetables from supermarkets. I use the butchers, fruit shop and bakers everyday. I do feel patronised slightly by the anti-Tesco lobby as they seem to feel that we will all lose our minds and not behave like conscious shoppers if Tesco arrives in town. The recent demand for organic and locally sourced produce demonstrates that we do seem to be more savvy-shoppers and this is the area where our small shops can really compete. If Tesco comes to town the only difference in my shopping habits is that I won`t have to drive to another town to buy my bulky goods once every two weeks. I do believe in the local people being given the choice. I will still shop locally for my meat, fruit and veg, bread and any bits I need in between! I know this is another letter droning on about this supermarket saga, and I do apologise for that! K. Farrow
