Gardening Column, @ Sheringham PaperGARDENING

Summer flowering shrubs will soon be over and may be outgrowing their space, these can now be pruned back removing old and unwanted branches. Cuttings of many shrubs can be taken at this time of the year. Side shoots must include a small heel of hardwood from the branch can be inserted into a pot of good sandy soil and put in a shady place. Daily picking of runner beans will encourage the plant to crop until September. Sow spinach for winter use and plant winter greens. Early potatoes should soon be ready for lifting.
