SPORTS NEWS
East Coast Warriors U11s travelled to Hamburg, Germany for a tournament and friendly
matches. The tournament was held at a sports centre in Wedel a suburb of Hamburg and the
Warriors stayed on site as guests of host club Wedel TSV. With excellent facilities at
their disposal the Wedel put on an excellent tournament and made the East Coast players
and their parents feel very welcome.
The first game of the tournament saw East Coast play Blau-Weiß 96 with the outcome of the
match a 0-0 despite the Warriors hitting the bar and having the majority of the play. Next
was Ko.Blankenese and after a close game another 0-0 draw. In the final group game East
Coast played SC Poppenbuttel and won 1-0 to finish 3rd in their group and set up a next
round game against SC Cosmos Wedel. The match was very one sided with the Warriors scoring
4 goals without reply. Next up was SC Alstertal/Langen and with the Warriors playing well
confidence was high, however the game ended a 1-1 draw and it was down to penalties to
decide the winner and unfortunately despite their best efforts East Coast were knocked
out. After six games and only one goal conceded in open play the Warriors enjoyed the
tournament and a great day ended with East Coast winning the tournament Fair Play Trophy.

The following day the East Coast played two Eleven a side matches the first against
Wedel U12s and despite the older players in the opposition team gave a good account of
themselves losing 1-0 but playing some very nice football. Next up was Wedel U11s and the
match was played for a Friendship trophy, which the Warriors donated to the host club and
despite East Coast leading for most of the game Wedel scored in the last 5 minutes to make
it 2-2. The rest of the trip was spent sight seeing and mixing with Wedel TSV
players and parents everyone enjoyed the trip and East Coast have already started making
plans to invite Wedel to play in the U.K next year.
