GARDENING
Freeze your herbs. For a steady supply of fresh herbs, like parsley, through the winter
cut the younger leaves rinse in clean water and after putting them in a plastic bag place
in the freezer. There is no need to chop them up simply crush them gently when frozen and
use as required. Dead-heading in the herbaceous border, another constant task but at this
time of the year an important one to keep the border looking fresh and attractive. There
are many flowering plants still to come in the border so dead-heading those that have
finished is a good idea. Start deciding which bulbs you would like so that you can start
planting in late August / September. There are many kinds available including daffodils,
snowdrops, crocus and tulips which all give you a burst of colour early the following
year.

Reply to Mr Bullocks Letter Regarding Sheringham Cemetery.
Mr Bullock stated Sheringham Cemetery was a disgrace, I take great exception to this as
for 49 weeks of the year it is kept to a good standard. I am the only employee of the
Council and as so, like Mr Bullock who was on holiday from Cornwall I was too on my
holidays, so while I am away there is no one to look after the cemetery. Next year when I
go away I would be grateful if he could take over for me, I go around the same time every
year and all the locals know that, so I am very pleased that they understand that for a
couple of weeks a year the cemetery is not quite how it should be. The weather has not
been too kind either. Russell Cox
I can vouch for the standard of the cemetery and would like to say a very big thank
you to Mr Cox for his hard work. My much-loved Father in Law is buried in Sheringham
Cemetery and I am a very frequent visitor, it is always neat and tidy and when I visited
on the weekend of 14 July it looked absolutely beautiful, despite the bad weather. Well
done Russell, keep it up. Mel Clarke Editor |

DO YOU SHOP AT MORRISIONS?
If you have bought cat food to put in the bin we have there, please do not so any
longer, as it has been removed. Despite the fact that we wrote asking for permission to
collect cat food for our charity, and it was granted, our bin has been taken away.
Apparently, the people who also had a bin there objected, saying that they gave food to
various animal charities, of which we were one. Therefore, we should not be allowed to
collect food. When our bin was filled it was removed, and the contents placed in theirs
instead, without our knowledge. We received several phone calls from angry supporters who
had donated food for our cats, only to find it had disappeared. We had never heard of
"Norfolk Animal Welfare". It wasn't in the Yellow Pages, and any food given to
us usually come from private people who have collected it themselves.
Some is left anonymously, others bring it each month. None of these people have ever
mentioned "Norfolk Animal Welfare". We are, of course, extremely grateful for
this food. Many donors are members of our "Friends of NNCLT", who receive our
newsletter, or are members of our Trust. Pat Venton, Norah Willet and Nivea Green have all
collected food which comes to us two or three times a year. I know Nivea doesn't belong to
any organisation, and buys the food herself. The others merely say, "We have
collected some food for you."
NNCLT does not just collect food. We are a working rescue charity, and our cats eat twice
daily, not twice a year! We spend over £250 per month on food alone, despite all the
generous help we receive from our members and the public. We are a well-known local Trust
dealing only with North Norfolk, and have strong local support. We are, and always have
been, unpaid volunteers. I, of course, am now a "closet millionaire" (like most
pensioners!) and spend my fabulous wealth on riotous living. Thought I don't take
holidays. Its such a bore remembering whether I've left my walking frame in Benidorm or
Outer Mongolia.
Morrisions, being multi-millionaires and new to the area, should be ashamed to remove a
few pounds-worth of food from needy cats, without even informing us. Once food was placed
in our bin it became our property and should certainly not have been removed. I called
that "theft". What do you think? Food can be left for our cats at either Cromer
Pet Shop, Bond Street, Cromer or Garden & Pet Store, Hamilton Road, Cromer (or other
designated pet shops in Sheringham, Aylsham, and Holt). Thank you for your valued support.
