AFGHANISTAN TROOPS APPEAL
I would like to say a very big thank you to all of you who have donated
items for me to send out to the troops following our appeal on the front page of the last
issue. Please, please keep them coming, as this is an ongoing appeal, which is not likely
to stop anytime soon.

Pictured above are some more parcels, ready to go and a selection of items
that have been donated. These will be parcelled up and sent out shortly.
Thank you also to those of you who have sent cards and letters of support
directly to them. Don't forget, you can drop items off with us here in the office or at
the Sheringham Plus office in Station Road.
A simple message of support can lift their spirits by an amazing amount,
so please keep it going, after all, they deserve it.

Readers Letter
I am writing to ask the kind people of Norfolk if they can help me. I am a mature
student studying Fine Art at Ba Hons Degree level; I am finding it increasingly hard to
obtain cheap reference books about Art, Art History, Sociology, Psychology and
Contemporary Artists. Would it be possible to ask the public, if you are throwing away any
books, magazines or old materials pertaining to art, could you get in touch so that we the
students at the Norwich school could benefit. I would willingly collect any of the afore
mentioned supplies, and redistribute it amongst the students at Uni. Everyone is talking
about going green and recycling their waste and I think that this could possibly help the
art student and the environment at the same time.
Old books,or equipment that you think might be usefull for art please give me a call
before throwing it away and I will collect it and take it away to be re-used. I hope that
this is possible if so you can call me on: 07969692902. Also I would like to invite
you to the ice-cream shop "Ice Blue" in Sheringham where I am painting a mural
for Lee and John, who own this shop and "Windows Ice-Cream" in Cromer. I thought
this could be a wonderful opportunity for the public to see art being created live. This
is a commission based project and is reflected in the content of the mural. The owners
wanted a mural based upon the old postcards from the fifties, I have based the image on
Sheringham and the Lifeboat House, heavily accented with buxom ladies and strong
gentlemen. I hope that you can pop in and see what is going on, I am in the shop everyday
from 11am to 4pm and I am hoping to have the project finished by Monday 23rd of July.
Thank you Sarah Faulkes
Giving furniture a second chance
The Benjamin Foundation's Restore furniture re-use centre opened in
February 2007 on the Hempstead Road Industrial Estate in Holt. Thanks to funding from the
Big Lottery Fund's CRED (Community Recycling and Economic Development) programme, Restore
sells good quality donated furniture and white goods to the public and also helps people
in real need. The centre came about as a result of the work of The Benjamin
Foundation with young homeless people. Having found a tenancy, clients were struggling to
furnish their new homes with even the basics such as a bed, or even a kettle. Staff at The
Benjamin Foundation therefore started an informal collection service of unwanted goods for
these clients, which grew into Restore. Open every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
from 10am until 4pm, Restore helps the environment by reducing landfill - in just the
first three months of operation, 17 tonnes of furniture and white goods were diverted from
landfill in North Norfolk. All the proceeds after covering costs are ploughed back
into The Benjamin Foundation, a charity which helps children and young people across
Norfolk. Set up in 1992 by Richard Draper MBE following the death of his son, Benjamin, in
a motorcycle accident. The charity fulfils its aim of significantly improving the lives of
vulnerable children and young people by offering support and accommodation for the
homeless, resettlement, advice and counselling for 5-19 year olds and after school and
holiday clubs.
