SHERINGHAM CARNIVAL PRAISE
The Carnival Committee wish to apologise to many members of the Town and Holiday Makers
who made their feelings known during Carnival Week regarding the statements implied during
the Address given at the Sunday Carnival Praise on 29th July.
To state that the recent Flooding in England during June and July could be God's response
to the decline in moral standards in Britain is not the general view shared by most
members of the Sheringham Churches Together or the Carnival Committee. Global warming is
the culprit caused by all humans over the last two centuries who had no idea of the
problems that they were making for mankind.
The Churches Together Committee believes God is a caring loving God, not a vengeful God.
It was a pity the joyful service mainly arranged by The Salvation Army was spoilt by these
comments. As a member of both Committees, I for one will be calling for future Carnival
Praise celebration to be just joyful hymns, prayers and a short bible reading without an
address.
John Lessels.
CARNIVAL BOAT RACE
On Sunday 5 June Steve Booth and Noel Gant organised Boat races at the Lees Lake
sponsored by Sheringham Town Council. It was a most enjoyable afternoon for kids of all
ages. Children were asked to make a boat (Blue Peter) style out of paper, sellotape,
sticky back paper, etc. These were judged for the best looking one and then raced the
width of the pond to lots of screaming encouragement. The other section was a boat
constructed out of scrap, plastic coke bottles etc, some fantastic creations were
presented for judging.
Winners

obtained.

RAFA
The Branch Visits the RAF Museum at Neatishead. On Wednesday, 25th July, some 25 Branch
members paid a visit to the RAF Museum at Neatishead, the first visit for 7 years. They
found it well organised and there was a different local volunteer in each section to
explain how the equipment operated and to answer questions. Members were delighted to see
that equipment from RAF Coltishall was on display. Whether members joined the RAF in 1939
or 1940 or in the later days of the war, the equipment they knew was on display. All were
agreed that this was one of the most interesting visits the Branch had made for many
years. To complete the visit excellent sandwiches and tea or coffee were available.
To those readers who have never been to the Museum, it is most certainly a Museum worth
visiting.

Images to Enjoy
The opening of the annual exhibition of photographs by members of the North Norfolk
Photographic Society on 3rd August at the Stable Gallery, Kelling was enjoyed by around 50
members and their guests.
Chairman Derek Cattermull introduced well-known local photographic expert and competition
judge Gary Hacon who performed the official opening. In his 'few words' he praised the
Society for the continuing and always improving quality of their work - as shown in the
exhibition. He said that every print amongst the 60 on show had merit. Gary was asked to
judge the best pictures.
Pride of place went to Trudy White's photo "Sunset Terrace" - a
sunset view of a terrace of houses at Cromer with the sea in the distance that received
praise from all present.
Runners up were Jane Harper, Alan Dedman and Mike Stew - who all produced original and
stimulating photographs, of varying subjects.
As the wine and canapés were consumed, all were invited to vote for their favourite
picture. The exhibition runs until 25th August and all visitors are invited to join in
this vote: the winner will be announced at the end. Will it be the same picture as that
selected by Gary Hacon? Only time will tell!
