CATS PROTECTION

Bibs, the little cat mentioned last time has now been chosen and is waiting for his owners to return from their holiday before leaving for his new home. Carly has already left for her new home where she is receiving individual attention and is putting on weight. We have had another two young kittens handed into care that were found wandering and neither of these has been claimed. As both are very friendly we believe they have probably been dumped, as kittens as young as these two should not be outside. As soon as they are nine weeks old they will be vaccinated and able to leave for new homes with people who will give them due care and attention.

Stephanie very often has people turning up on her doorstep to see the cats at the "Cat Sanctuary". She has to advise them that our cats and kittens are spread around North Norfolk with our Fosterers who are all volunteers. As most of them also work this is one of the reasons we ask people to telephone first. When someone telephones Stephanie she will discover whether the person is looking for a cat or kitten, whether they have had a cat in the past and if there are children or other animals in the household. She can then identify which cats would be suitable for their situation and put them in contact with the person(s) looking after them to arrange a suitable time for them to go and see the cat. Visits to the vets for vaccinations, neutering and any other health problems as well as home checks for cats that have been chosen also have to be organised by Stephanie and the other fosterers so, to save a wasted journey, please call first.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten please call Stephanie on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit http://www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving her a call on the above number.

Sheringham Girl reaches Final of Modelling Competition

In the summer issue of Chapelfield magazine, a campaign was launched to find a Covergirl to appear on the front of the Christmas edition. Over 150 girls entered the competition, and a panel of judges have now narrowed them down to nine finalists, one of whom is Grace Snell aged just 17 years, from Sheringham. Good luck Grace, from us all.

SHERINGHAM EVENING W.I.

''My life in Crime'' we wondered if we were going to be taught the tricks of the trade as a cat burglar, but Patrick Monaghan, our speaker, gave us a compelling and amusing insight into life as a Judge's and Court Clerk dealing with criminals from the other side of the bench. He dressed and looked the part and also described the wide range of jurors and their peculiarities. Altogether an interesting and entertaining evening.

We were delighted that our Charity Stall for Balloons4Hearts had raised nearly £200 and we decided to give further support to this appeal from our October Fashion Show, making a total donation of £500. We will also be holding our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, this time at St Peter's Church Hall, on 28th September. Our W.I. Banner, made in 1992 and depicting the fishing and seafaring heritage of Sheringham, was very well received as part of the Textile Trail in Norwich, which took place over the Bank holiday.
