Moving on to our next production... this is an appeal...

Back from the Jamboree

Two scouts and one leader from Sheringham have just returned from an experience of a lifetime at the Centenary World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Essex. Jacob Rix and Alex Redding were selected to be part of the Norfolk Scout contingent and raised £1,000 each to attend. Part of the money also helped other youngsters from the third world to attend. With 40,000 other participants, from more than 200 countries, it was the largest event of its kind ever held. There were activity zones both on and off site. These included gliding, paracending, scuba diving, sailing and canoeing, high wire, challenge valley assault course, experiencing different cultures and beliefs and tasting foods from around the world. There were bases dealing with global issues, and days out doing projects in the community. There was different entertainment every night, from a pop concert with Lamar to a carnival and fancy dress.  On 1st August participants joined every scout across the globe in a Sunrise ceremony renewing their scout promise at 8am local time. With 28 million members the movement got world wide coverage.  John Paine, Group Scout Leader was a member of the organising team and directly responsible for the 50,000 day visitors to the event, together with looking after special guests which included heads of state and ambassadors from several of the participating countries. At the opening reception John explained to Prince William who attend the event, how up to 10,000 Visitors each morning were checked in at North Weald Airfield and then bused to the site whilst 10,000 participants were taken off site to activities.

Sheringham has a new Beaver Leader

Cliff, a Chief Scout Award holder and former scout from Aylsham is no stranger to the Beavers as he has been a Helper in the Tuesday Colony since his son joined.  Girls and boys can join any of the sections.
