Sheringham Little Theatre Panto AuditionsMore than 50 young actors and dancers turned up at Sheringham Little Theatre on Sunday (September 23), hoping to win a part in this year's laugh-a-minute pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Panto producer Bev Berridge, director Richard Mullins and choreographer Julie-Ann had the difficult task of choosing a troupe of a dozen dancers aged 12 and under, two teams of 7 to play the dwarfs, and just a handful of older performers, a couple of whom will be given speaking parts. "We had the best turnout ever for auditions, and we were so pleased with the standard this year that we decided to increase the number of dancers," Mr Berridge said.
Those chosen will begin rehearsals at the end of November, ready for opening night on December 11. A modern take on the classic fairy story, the show features Lorna Chappell as Snow White, Thom Price as the court jester, Claire Mullins as the Wicked Queen and, hot from Agatha Christie's Mousetrap in London's West End, Paul Tate as panto dame Nurse Nanny Annie Fanny. "After the success of our sell-out pantomime the Wizard of Oz last year, this year's production promises to be another spectacular family show and it is a wonderful opportunity for young dancers and actors to be part of that success," Mr Berridge said. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is at Sheringham Little Theatre from December 11 to January 2nd. Tickets, priced £13 (£8.50 under 16s, £40 family ticket) are available from the box office on 01263 822347.

Historic coaches back on Poppy LineThe first two coaches of the historic four-coach articulated set designed by Sir Nigel Gresley in the '20s for intensive suburban services from Liverpool Street Station to the London suburbs have arrived back on the Poppy Line after a three-year restoration by the West Coast Railways Company at Carnforth in North West England. The other two coaches of the set should be back by the end of February next year. This is the only surviving set of quad-articulated coaches. The restoration has been made possible through a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. The importance of these coaches is that they were the pioneers of the system of articulation used today in the Eurostar high-speed trains (though Gresley's teak-bodied coaches rarely exceeded 40mph!). The pictures show the two coaches on the line, their seven coats of varnish gleaming in the sunshine. They were taken up the line to the new carriage shed at Holt. The outer ends of the coaches are suspended for the time being on temporary wheels, until the full rake of coaches is made up. Photo by Steve Allen.
