CATS PROTECTION

We recently had a call from one of our supporters who had a cat in her garden which had started to come through her cat flap and was upsetting and fighting with her cat.

We gave her some of our paper collars to put on the cat to check to see whether it had an owner. Unfortunately, she had no response to this and it was decided the cat was a stray and we arranged for him to come into care. When he arrived in care we checked for a microchip and were delighted when we found he had been micro chipped.

Contact was made with the microchip company and his owner's details were obtained. Stephanie contacted his family and made arrangements for them to come and collect him.

Felix recognised his people immediately when they came to collect him and they were delighted to be reunited with him as he had been missing since January.

We learned that they had come to live in Norfolk from Scotland and because they were renovating their new home they had rented a property while the work was being done. Because the property being rented was not suitable for their cats, the cats had been put in a cattery.

Unfortunately Felix has escaped from the cattery. Although his owners had made every effort to try and find Felix they had been unsuccessful. Receiving the telephone call from Stephanie means one family and their beloved cat are now back together. Because Felix was micro chipped we were able to reunite him with his owners instead of taking him into care and finding him a new home.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten please call Stephanie on 01692 535858.

Alternatively you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk for a description and photographs of the cats before giving her a call on the above number.

Sheringham Shark Shenanigans
continued from front page

To be fair, all of the experts are only making their judgements based on photographs and without further evidence we can only speculate. While the injuries to the seal don't resemble the usual propeller injury, they could conceivably have been made by the seal becoming tangled in fishing gear and there's plenty of that around our coastline.

Sheringham shark attack, Norfolk, UK

I guess we'll probably never know but it made a good story and Sheringham got some national coverage - they say there's no such thing as bad publicity, so dig out your plastic shark fins and let's have us a shark hunt!

Santa Paws arrived early this year just so he could attend theDoggy Santa Paws, Animal Magic Dog Club, Sheringham Animal Magic Dog Club Xmas party held at Bradfield Hall by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Alston. He was accompanied by Chelsea the Newfoundland pulling the Xmas sleigh full of presents for the 35 dogs (many wearing fancy dress) who attended the party. Bronwen Green the Event Manager said "All the dogs and owners had a great time we have all been training hard for the last ten weeks and it was a tribute to everyone that all the dogs were so well behaved and happy. We are looking forward to next term where apart from our usual classes we are also doing flyball (doggy tennis) and doggy dancing. Santa Paws had a special message that we would like to share with all dog owners that is please remember that the following foods are poisonous or dangerous to dogs, chocolate, grapes and their dried variations eg raisins etc, onions, alcohol, fish and poultry bones and too much fatty food."

ROTARY CAMEL RACE 2008 - TICKETS ON SALE NOW.

The 3rd annual Camel Race will be held by Aylsham Rotary Club on the evening of Saturday the 16th February 2008 at Aylsham High School. Doors open at 7pm for a prompt start to the first race at 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased on the telephone numbers below, cost £8 and this includes a chilli jacket potato supper.  The two previous Camel Race evenings have been a huge success with many local people attending, some wearing "arab" costumes to add to the flavour of the evening. Races are sponsored in advance by local businesses and also camels are purchased by individuals. The 'jockeys' sit at one end of the school hall whilst the camel they are racing is at the other end - the race commences and the six 'jockeys' turn a wooden pole in their hands to reel in a length of string connected to the camel at the far end of the hall, the first camel to arrive at the finish line is the winner.

Aylsham Rotary Club Camel Race, February 2008

The whole evening is full of fun and 'riders' are spurred on to success by loud cries of encouragement from their friends and backers. There is a 'tote' run by playgroup leaders from the Aylsham Playgroup, (Last year Aylsham Rotary Club fund raising at this event enabled them to donated £750 to the playgroup). There is a licensed bar.  The 2007 camel race raised £1,700, all funds raised go to Rotary charities.  To purchase tickets please call Peter Dunham on 01603 870250, if no reply call Bill Cain on 01263 731627.
