Thank you to all who have enquired into the health of my mother. I am happy to say that the operation went well and she is on the road to recovery. It is a slow process but hopefully by the Summer she will be enjoying the town again. Mel

The Morley Club

A New Year, a new set of Resolutions. Or probably the same old ones we conveniently forget around the end of January. But this year is going to be different, isn't it? And one popular and perennial resolution is to take up a new sport or game. If you're going to do that in Sheringham then The Morley is the place to start. We have activities to suit everyone. And you don't have to be super-fit (another resolution?) or even super-young to join in. The outdoor Bowls Season starts at Easter. Last year we had players of Nine and Ninety on the Green. And if that's too strenuous, try Indoor Carpet Bowls. No strength needed, just skill. Snooker is also a game you can enjoy at any age and any level. The Snooker Room at The Morley often has teenagers playing pensioners or potential Ronnie O'Sullivans playing next to those of us struggling to beat our highest break of ten.
Bridge is another fascinating game. Bet you've had that on your list of things to learn a few times. Well, there are regular sessions every week at The Morley and lots of people willing to teach you (call George at the Club on 822087). And, talking of betting, I bet there's one activity that might not have appeared on your list of resolutions before. That is, play live Poker. With the recent explosion of interest in the game there are now millions of players worldwide. And you don't have to be James Bond or "bet the farm" to enjoy Poker nowadays. At The Morley we hold Poker Tournaments for Members twice a week. On Wednesday evenings £4 (+ 50p registration) will get you entry, and on Thursday it is a £10 buy-in. There are usually around twenty players and they are the most friendly and likeable people you could hope to meet anywhere. There's always someone to explain the Rules and help novices. Call Tony on 824955 for details. The final bit of good news is The Morley Club Resolution to hold Subscription Fees at last year's level. It works out at less than 50p a week. Not much for the fun you can have. A Happy New Year to all Members and new friends we hope to meet this year.
