NORTH NORFOLK CATS LIFELINE TRUST
A Big Thank you to the Gentleman who rescued a three-week-old kitten which
had been dumped in a wheelie bin in Upper Sheringham just before Christmas. He took it to
one of our supporters who brought it to us. The kitten's been named Jolian and he's doing
well. If you find a stray or abandoned cat, please contact Mrs Gay Rees on 01263-822560.
Don't forget! Donations of food can be left at Claws 'n' paws and the Pet Shop in
Sheringham, Posh Pets and Selections in Holt, The Garden and Pet Care Centre, Hamilton Rd,
Cromer, The Cromer Petshop, Bond St, Cromer, Pampered Pets in Aylsham and now at Beeston
Mini Market Cromer Rd, Beeston Regis. We are grateful for all donations.
Ref your item re Sheringham Carnival Queen in issue 83.
The Sheringham Carnival Queen in 1969 was Jennifer (Jenny) Beasey. Ken
Garlick was Carnival organiser and Jenny was crowned by David Kassoff who was appearing at
the Theatre Royal in Norwich. David Kassoff was standing in for Dora Bryan was unwell.
I have a cutting from the Journal (Norfolk News) dated August 1st 1969 with a photograph
of Jenny and her two attendants Jayne Ecroyd and Bernadette Harris. Sorry whoever
you are Linda Keller, but you were not Sheringham's Carnival Queen in 1969 nor according
to my records, any year between 1962 and 2007.

Diabetes UK
North Norfolk Group
People often wonder what a local Diabetes UK group is all about. Our
mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future
without diabetes which may give you a clearer idea of our aims and ambitions. Fundraising
to assist in research and needs of the local diabetic community continues unabated.
WE NEED LOTS OF HELP!
Again this year we will be running our Annual Balloon Race, which starts
on Sunday 8th June and finishes the last Sunday in August. You could be of great help here
by selling tickets for this event. It's easy - just let us know how many tickets you would
like to sell, 20, 50, 100 or whatever, at £1.00 each and we'll get them to you. When
you've sold them, let us know and we'll arrange collection of the cash. Friends,
neighbours, relatives all stand the chance of winning £25 in vouchers for a £1 stake.
You don't have to wait until June to sell tickets - they are available now, just give us a
ring.
All this money is used for needs of local diabetics and is a major fundraiser for us. In
general, help is also needed through the summer months at supermarket collections, walks
in the park, local carivals and with the Human Fruit Machine on Cromer Pier. If you can
help, please call John Hutchinson on 01692 403351

GIVE BLOOD WITH LOVE.
People in East Anglia are being urged to help keep hearts pumping this February by
signing up to give a special red valentine's gift-their blood. This year the National
Blood Service (NBS) has maintained blood supplies to all hospitals but stocks are lower
than in recent years. Gareth Bell, Communications Officer for the NBS, said 'Throughout
January we tend to see blood stocks recover from their Christmas dip but this year this
has not been the case. Collections have recently suffered from a high number of donors
suffering from various viruses, as well as common colds and flu, which often means a
donation must be postponed.
Although we have seen blood stocks begin to rise of late we would like to see more donors
booking in now to ensure this trend continues. Ideally we would like to boost stocks to
around 6 to7 days supply''
It only takes around an hour or so to give blood from start to finish and by booking an
appointment your waiting time will be reduced. Every day patients across England and north
Wales require around 7,000 units of blood which is a big challenge for the NBS. Every day
up and down the country 7,000 people must walk through the doors of their local blood
donor session just to keep hospitals in good supply.
Mr Bell Added '' Every single donation given is vital to your local blood bank and will
help to build stocks. It's easy to think that your one donation won't count but it does.
Quite simply you will be helping to save lives and you just never know when you or a loved
one might need blood. Anyone can need it at any time.''
Most people aged 17 to 59 can give blood. You must be generally fit and healthy and weigh
over 7 st 12lbs. New, returning and regular donors are all welcome to attend local blood
donor sessions. For further information about blood donation, and to book an appointment
to give blood, please call the National Blood Service helpline on 08457 711 711 or log on
to www.blood.co.uk.
