Ivory urges local people to have their say on how we deal with the County's waste
As the Conservative County Council launches an important consultation on how we reduce
Norfolk's use of landfill to dispose of waste, Trevor Ivory calls on local people to have
their say.
How we dispose of our waste is a controversial topic and Trevor Ivory has welcomed the
launch of a major consultation exercise by Norfolk County Council to determine how local
people want to see their waste disposed of.
"We should all be doing everything that we can to minimise the amount of waste that
we throw away - and that includes a much bigger effort by the supermarkets to cut down on
unnecessary packaging for our food - but no matter what we do, we will always have some
waste that cannot be recycled," explained Mr Ivory.
"But what we do with that waste is a controversial question and I am pleased to see
that our Conservative County Council has decided to consult with us before making any
decisions. Local people deserve a say and it is now important that we all take part. I
have already carried out the survey online and it took just a few minutes," Mr Ivory
added.
The survey is available online now at norfolk.gov.uk/futureofwaste. |
Fairtrade Week
At the Fairtrade Week at the Salvation Army shop, £42.40 was raised from the sale of
cups of tea and coffee for the Salvation Army Building Fund. £169.28 worth of Fairtrade
goods was sold, some of which will go to help people like Jagwati in India, who was
struggling to support her 4 children on 52p per day, but now she has a new skill and works
for a Fairtrade jewellry supplier with a guaranteed daily income of £1.30.
Thank you very much to everyone who supported Fairtrade, to the Salvation Army and the
helpers in the shop.

About the Community Fund - See what's new for 2008
The object of the Community Fund is to help the community of Weybourne. This we would like
to think we have achieved since we started in 1997.
The committee has raised over £25,000 since then by their enthusiastic fundraising,
whilst having a lot of fun at the same time.
Our thanks go to everyone who has supported, 'Fun Day', 'The Race Nights', 'Bonfire Night'
and other fund raising events throughout the year.
Money has also been spread around the village; the church repair a vandalised window, the
playing field; new equipment, The village Hall and Methodist Church with new chairs.
Not all events have been to raise money but have been for the benefit of 'The Village',
these have been: the fireworks night, Christmas & Easter celebrations (these included
giving presents or Easter eggs to the children). And a post Christmas lunch for our
treasured senior citizens.
Our annual Funday is held on August Bank Holiday Sunday
New for 2008
This year is an exiting year for the Community Fund, as we have acquired a new field at
the eastern edge of the village (between the allotment gardens and the cemetery). This
part of the field extends to five acres and should give us the scope to expand and enhance
our activities. The filed was grassed last year and is now ready for use, we have for the
firsts time in our history our own secure storage in which we can store all the
communities possession under one roof. We also acquired our own tractor and grass cutter
to enable us to keep the field in good order.
We are intending to start the use of the field on the 25th of May 2008 with a country fair
and car boot sale. Please contact karen@norfolkhomes.co.uk
if you would like a trade site on the day or a car boot pitch. We have a marquee with
under cover pitches or trade stands out side for those with their own equipment
