CATS PROTECTION
Sometimes, a cat comes into care because it has had an accident and its owners either
cannot afford to pay for its treatment or are unable to look after an injured cat. Fifi,
one such cat, recently joined us with a broken back leg which had been put in plaster and
she needs cage rest. Her family found they could not cope with looking after her as they
had a young children who did not appreciate she needed to rest. Because she had not been
resting properly her leg has had to be reset. She is now making satisfactory progress and
has already been offered a new home with people who are prepared to wait until she is
fully recovered. Although she is only about 11 months old this very lucky little cat
should now make a full recovery.
A lot of people who call enquiring about the cats ask us when we are open. They are
usually surprised when we explain that, as all our cats are cared for in our fosterers'
homes, we do not have opening hours. We point out that as our foster homes are spread over
a wide area we try to identify which cats in our care would suit the person's lifestyle.
We then put the person in contact with the fosterer(s) who are caring for cats which would
be suitable, and they can agree a suitable time to visit. Sometimes the person will visit
more than one home before coming to a decision on which cat they would like to offer a
home. Our cats enjoy the individual care they receive and our fosterers are able to give
new owners lots of information about the cats. As most of our fosterers also work (some
with jobs with unsociable hours) visits are often arranged for evenings and weekends,
which often suits new owners too.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten please call Stephanie on 01692 535858.

North Norfolk Photographic Society
North Norfolk Photographic Society (NoNoPS) members went back to school on
14th May.
The occasion was a talk by Dave Jordan who is a teacher of Information and Communications
Technology at Dereham Northgate High School, but came as a holder of the LRPS - Licentiate
of the Royal Photographic Society - and a respected photographic judge and speaker.
Dave is a Yorkshireman who came to Norfolk getting on for 20 years ago and has been
involved with Camera Clubs for some 30 years. His talk was on the theory and use of colour
in photography - a talk he said he first prepared in the 1980s.
Dave Jordan at the start of his very polished talk said that if an image does not need
colour, youd do better to use black and white. But he went on to emphasise the use
and power of colour to achieve photographic excellence.
Members were told how the spectrum of colours are all part of white light, and how
complementary colours - such as red and green or yellow and purple - work with or against
one another. With a superbly illustrated set of projected images - most of them his own -
Dave Jordan showed how different shades of colour can be used to good effect, be the
desired effect a striking or a soothing one.
NoNoPS regular meetings in Holt have now ended for the 2007/8 season - but will
resume in September. Meantime anyone interested in the Club would be very welcome and can
contact Judy Knights on 01263 825418.
