Give Blood

Long days mean you could savae more lives

An appeal has been launched for people to use the extra daylight hours in June to help save more lives.

As the longest day of the year approaches the National Blood Service (NBS) is asking for more people to take the plunge, find a spare hour, and give a vital blood donation.  Gareth Bell, Spokesman for the NBS said, "In June we will celebrate the longest day of the year and I'm sure, like me, you hope it will be a hot one.   Long summer days can often be problematic for us as we tend to  find people's attention moves away from doing their bit by rolling up their sleeves to donate.  We only ask donors to give three times a year so we just need one hour of your time this summer.  Let's not forget that anyone can need blood at any time and each time you give you could be helping to save more than one life.  Every donation collected really does make a massive difference and is a precious resource."

Currently only 4% of people who could give blood actually do so and new donors are always needed.
