Hearsay in sheringhamHEAR'SAY

Hello and indeed welcome to yet another instalment of hearsay. And yes contrary to, what I assumed to be public opinion the decision to over turn Tesco's appeal was to me a surprise. I thought like many that what may have been a forgone conclusion turns into even more, for the moment, intrigue as to whether Tesco will appeal again. And who knows maybe this saga will continue to drag on well into the next millennia. Not unlike the time it may take us to pay off the rising bill for the next Olympic games. Still look on the bright side, with all this rain the country has had recently during our so called long hot dry heatwavy summer, we should by all accounts at least, have even more prospective water sport winners. However I suspect that somewhere out there will be a water company issuing a drought order by Christmas! Whoever it was forecasting this year's weather must have gotten the map upside down and thought we were Spain or something!

Now going back to Sheringham's dearth of decent grocery shop floor space me thinks I'm pretty sure in suspecting this will give carte blanche to those surviving food outlets to further drive their rocketing prices even higher. At this rate it will be cheaper to drive to the Tesco store at Fakenham (even with the price of fuel as it is) and still save a bundle, on a pound of lard and a bag of oven chips. God forbid if I want the crinkly ones! - Northern Rock won't be the only hard up codger the government might like to bail out! Anyway moving swiftly on. We have now learnt for sure that North Norfolk is to get its very own wind farm just a few miles off shore at Sheringham. Bring it on I say and when the weather predictions finally come true and we eventually get our heat wave we can ask them to turn them in our direction and blow us over a bit of a cool breeze. But somehow I don't think it works like that.

Well since I last penned, the dewpond common has now been mowed! At last I hear you cry. I don't think that for all the years that I have lived in Sheringham have I ever heard a subject decision talked about so much, and yet so ridiculed in depth. Many old timers seem, quite rightly to remember the good old days and how the locals at the time looked upon it as a utility. Children played there, and not forgetting the many uses the land had for the common use of all the commoners. It seems in recent times too many people with "ideas" have come to have a say in what goes on around these here parts that don't really concern them. My advice to those is that perhaps they should take a closer look at their own grassy parts before passing judgement on others. Some things are meant to be left to the traditional ways. And lets face it this country is a past master at certain traditional values. i.e. governmental fiscal folly, uncontrolled immigration, extortionate taxes on the poor, dodgy foreign policy and pension embezzlement and I only start to scratch the surface, need I say more?

Now then with the tirade of abuse out of my system I think I can move on to say how sorry I was to hear that the Little Theatre didn't win their lottery grant, but excuse me since when did lottery hand out grants become a public "voteable" matter? I thought, wrongly it now seems that one put in a bit and one wins or not I didn't realise the thing was dependent on how popular a certain cause was. Shame really, pity we couldn't have had the same sentiments put out on-line about the public's opinion as to whether or not we wanted a Tesco or not! I hope all those of you who campaigned against it get charged a climate charge levy on the fuel you use to drive to Cromer and beyond to do your shopping and that you never mutter an utterance of discontentment at the cost of your travelling expenses. 'Till next time, take care now Vic.
