CATS PROTECTION
One of our new pens was much appreciated recently when 2 cats plus 7 kittens arrived
because their owner had moved and discovered she was not allowed to keep pets. As these
pens are so much bigger we were able to keep the family together. Although one of the
kittens is 6 months old, the other six are only 5 weeks. The younger ones quickly found
the cat activity centre and were soon scrambling up it, or chasing each other to have play
fights. Meanwhile, mother cats (Rucksana and Isis) and Maxie, the older kitten, had an
opportunity to cuddle up in the housing unit, or snuggle into the chair in the run where
they can enjoy the sunshine (when the opportunity arises). These cats and kittens have now
all been booked or re-homed.
The other pen is occupied by Spud and Marcelle, two of our kittens who were recently
returned to care as the existing cats in the household found having two youngsters join
them was too much for them to accept. They have lovely natures, are very friendly and
playful, love the company of people (including children), and other cats. They purr
whenever you give them attention, love a cuddle, are both real lap cats and a real joy to
look after. Because they are 5 months old they will be going to be neutered shortly and
then, ideally, we will be able to find them a new home together.

We recently had a request for help with a feral colony. The person who contacted us
advised that there were approximately 10 - 15 cats which needed to be neutered. After some
discussion however, we discovered there was also 8 kittens that had been born in the
spring. As they are now nearly 6 months old it is important for them to be caught and
neutered too. We have been in contact with their local vets and they have agreed to neuter
the cats for us. A cat trap and restraining basket have been loaned to the person to catch
the cats. They will liaise with the vets to ensure that they do not catch any on days when
they already have a full operating list. The cats will all have one ear "tipped"
to identify that they have been neutered and they will then be released back on the site.

We raised £947 at the Open Morning at Dilham.
