KELLING PROBUS CLUB- MONTHLY LUNCHEON MEETING- THURS 18th SEPT.

Dr John Bryden, the Chairman, started the get together with the very sad news that member Ken Harding had passed away, He appeared in good health at the August meeting and members recall he was very active in the design of the World War 2 Halifax bomber. A minute's silence was held to remember him.

After a splendid lunch of Roast Norfolk Turkey with all the trimmings and a very tasty fruit trifle, the Chairman introduced Glyn Burland a member who was to talk about ''Wanderings through the N.H.S''. As a Consultant in Oral and Maxillo Facial Surgery he set up the first department for this treatment in the Coventry Hospital. In '92 whilst still at Coventry he decided to retire and move to Sheringham and enjoy golf and ornithology.

Much of Glyn's talk covered the very extensive training required to become a Consultant and the full training took eleven years working in London Hospitals as a House Doctor, House surgeon, Junior Registrar, Senior Registrar and studying for Degrees and Fellowships, a very lengthy process but much reduced since Glyn has retired.

Alan Chapman who gave a vote of thanks was amazed at Glyn's recall of so many happennings, which he recounted at each stage of his years of training, what a memory. His talk was very much appreciated by members who found the insight into Glyn's working life most interesting and entertaining.

Our Secretary, Mr Terry Penrose was away on vacation for this meeting but he would be pleased to hear from any male who has retired and would be interested to join our Friendly Club, ring 01263588772 for a chat. We meet on the third Thursday of each month for luncheon and a short talk at the Pheasant Hotel in Kelling and members come from far afield as Hindringham to Mundesley. Next month's meeting on Thursday 16th October as always will be at the Pheasant Hotel,
