CATS PROTECTION

Trinny and Susannah are making very good progress and will be going to the vets this week, where hopefully, they will be given a clean bill of health.

With Christmas fast approaching it is time to reflect on what has happened during the last year. Once again we have re-homed over 250 cats and kittens and at the time of writing have nearly 40 in care. Most of the cats have had uneventful lives while they have been with us but special mention is made of Damson, Plum, Cherry, Lily and Lulu who were all abandoned by their owners outside vets and clinics with notes indicating they could not afford to keep them. While with us the cats and kittens are well cared for by our fosterers who spend many hours with their charges and provide valuable information to enable Stephanie to identify their "ideal home".

Christmas Sale, late kittens

Our fosterers have had an eventful year (apart from looking after the cats) with Lesley having a baby boy, Marian having an operation and Sharon moving. We have also been joined by new foster mum Irene, who has many years experience caring for cats and enjoys socialising kittens from outside situations. Thank you very much ladies. Many thanks also to Kenny for keeping our much admired website up to date.

Fund raising has gone well throughout the year with several new ventures undertaken including the Hog Roast at Dilham, a stall at Worstead Festival and a Jumble Sale and Bazaar, both at Bacton. Once again our Christmas Sale was well attended and we raised an amazing £1566. We would like to thank all our supporters who help at these events. They willingly give their time to man and set up stalls, put up party tents and generally make the events run smoothly.

Finally we would like to wish all fellow cat lovers a Happy Christmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

ROTARY CLUB'S 7OTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED IN STYLE

"1938 was the year Terry Wogan was born, the ballpoint pen was invented and the year Hitler was preparing for war. It was also the year when Cromer and Sheringham Rotary Club was formed." These were the opening remarks made by Rotary District Governor for East Anglia, Peter Harris, speaking at the Club's 70th anniversary dinner held last week at Sheringham Golf Club. The event was attended by almost 70 Rotarians and guests including representatives from Inner Wheel and seven other Rotary Clubs in the North Norfolk and Broadland area.

Complimenting the Club on its charity work both within the local community and overseas, Peter Harris highlighted particularly the now annual organ concerts which have proved a major fund-raiser and the Club's help with remote schools in South Africa. Light-heartedly, he concluded by offering drinks to all founder members of the Club!

Cromer and Sheringham Rotary Club

Speaking on behalf of the Club, President Joe Floyd said: "We have been ever mindful that voluntary service organisations are changing fast and their leadership has the management and operations very much under review to meet the challenge of the 21st century. Rotary is no exception", he continued., "but we must ensure that any change we make is not for the sake of novelty but is a genuine positive step forward for the effective continued presence of Rotary in our part of the District.

"This year we are building upon the progress achieved during the past couple of years with a root and branch review of club activities. I do not believe there is a shortage of people willing to engage in voluntary service and we look forward to welcoming potential new candidates". He paid tribute to Sheringham Golf Club who had excelled themselves with ideal facilities and superb catering.

During the evening, a second Paul Harris Fellowship was awarded to Harry Reed, the driving force behind the successful organ concert series. "A Paul Harris Fellowship is a rare accolade" said Club Secretary, Tony Nash. " But to receive the award twice is exceptional. It is one of the highest awards in the Rotary movement and recognises the many years of service given by to Rotary by Harry who will 87 in March".

The evening concluded with entertainment from Colin Burleigh, a member of the Keith Skipper Press Gang.
