Share in the
Future of the Norfolk Coast
The Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was designated for the
national importance and value of its landscape, wildlife and historic interest in 1968.
The designation covers over 450 square kilometres (174 square miles) of coast and
hinterland.
The current management plan for the AONB, which provides a framework for all the
organisations and interests that play a part in managing the area to conserve and enhance
its 'natural beauty', was produced by the Norfolk Coast Partnership in 2004.
It's now time to review that plan, to produce a refreshed plan in 2009. The public
consultation runs until the end of February 2009, and we're keen to hear from everyone
with an interest in the area what they think needs to be done to keep the Norfolk Coast
such a special place.
Information on the draft revised plan and how you can have your say is available on our
web site, www.norfolkcoastaonb.org.uk, or you can get a hard copy by contacting our office
in Fakenham on 01328 850530.

Volunteers at Sheringham Park rack up 3500
hours
Last week National Trust volunteers at Sheringham Park met up at nearby Felbrigg Hall,
for a thank you Christmas lunch in the Carriage House Restaurant, after
contributing over 3500 hours of service in 2008.
The face behind the desk in the Visitor Centre will often be a volunteer, as will the
helper with school groups. Regular volunteer work parties also go out into the park every
week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, to provide vital assistance to the wardens. This can be
anything from controlling growth of invasive Rhododendrons, to tree-felling and fencing
jobs.
Head Warden Keith Zealand was on hand at the Christmas lunch to thank those present for
all their efforts during the past 12 months. He said; The National Trust at
Sheringham Park could not operate without the contribution of its volunteers.
The staff at Sheringham Park acted as waiters and waitresses for the duration of the
lunch. They were all relieved once their duties had finished that the food had stayed on
the plates and not in anyones lap!

New Visitor Services Manager, Malcolm Fisher, reflected on the value of volunteers. He
said; From what I have seen in the past few weeks, since joining the National Trust,
Sheringham Park has a strong team of volunteers. He added; Volunteers and
staff alike, work at Sheringham Park because we all believe in what we are trying to
achieve and we want the visitors to enjoy it as much as we do.
You will see the volunteers in action again alongside Anthea Simpson from
Simpsons Nurseries on Sunday 21 December at the Christmas Craft event. They will
assist children and adults alike with the making of table decorations from natural and
decorative materials.
If youre interested in volunteering at Sheringham Park and want to find out more
about how you can get involved and if its right for you, please contact Malcolm
Fisher on 01263 820550 or email sheringhampark@nationaltrust.org.uk.
