North Norfolk Photographic Society

The second part of the North Norfolk Photographic Society Annual Competition took place in Holt on Wednesday 4th March. The contest for projected images took place a few weeks ago - this time it was the turn for Prints.

Judge for the evening was Dave Jordan who is a teacher of Information and Communications Technology at Dereham Northgate High School, and is a holder of the LRPS - Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society - and a respected photographic judge and speaker. It was his second visit to the Club in less than a year - last May he talked to the club about colour.

Dave is a Yorkshireman who came to Norfolk getting on for 20 years ago and has been involved with Camera Clubs for some 30 years. A most entertaining judge, he had 55 photographs from which to pick one winner - which was ‘On the Way to Lindisfarne’ by Judy Knights.

Judge Jordan then had to choose between this and Alan Dedman’s ‘A Field in February’ - which had been the winner of the projected section. His choice was Judy’s Print - which is now deemed to be the Society’s ‘Image of the Year .

The next meeting of North Norfolk Photographic Society will be on Wednesday 18th March at Loades Hall, Holt when Judy and Derek Leak (old friends of the Society) will give a fascinating Audio-Video Presentation.

Visitors are most welcome and further information can be found either from the website http://nonops.org, or from Secretary Judy Knights on 01263 825418.

Judy and Derek Leak visited the North Norfolk Photographic Society on Wednesday 18th March and gave an audio visual presentation of photographs they have taken on their travels.

Both are well-known photographers - and Derek Leak in particular is a frequent visitor to the club as a photographic judge.

The show was in fact a sequence of shows. First came slides from Judy Leak of butterflies and moths, showing their development from egg to larva to pupa and to fully developed insect. Then - Derek’s turn - a fascinating show of photographs by the Victorian Author and Solicitor G C Davies of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads interspersed with Derek’s own photos of the same locations today. Thirdly, a set of photographs taken by Judy and Derek on a visit to Florence - the city, the Duomo and many of the works of art.

After the break, a photographic journey from Cley to Gorleston and then the high-spot for many: Judy and Derek are self-confessed ’Lakeland fanatics’ and treated members to photographs they have taken on their many walks in the English Lakes and Fells. All the shows were immaculately put together with one slide fading seamlessly into the next and accompanied by carefully selected music.

The next meeting of North Norfolk Photographic Society will be on Wednesday 1st April at Loades Hall, Holt at 7.30 and takes the form of an inter-club competition against Buxton.
