Dear Ed
I heard that there was going to be a new local paper and thought that I would put pen to
paper with a few little thoughts to digest!
TEN LITTLE THOUGHTS TO BE GOING ON WITH
1. Just why did the powers that be put one pedestrian crossing with
traffic lights by the round-about and not by the Doctors Surgery, or the children's
playing field for that matter?
2. Why did the same power elicit that dirty great camera pole on
"that spot" by the town clock? Anyone in a car turning right has to drive over
the line now, to be able to see down the High Street. It blocks all view of the street.
It's an accident waiting to happen.
3. Why oh why are there double yellow lines running up from the pet shop
in Station Road to the Whistle Stop corner? It obviously seems perfectly clear that
whether or not these drivers who park on them on Saturdays and weekdays come to that, have
orange and blue badges or none at all? Oh and the same goes fore cars that park from the
bus stop by the tourist information kiosk to the train station entrance. It makes driving
around there a nightmare. As any driver trying to turn right out of Waterbank Road will
tell you.
4. How is it that there are always smashed bottles alone the whole
length of Beeston Road first thing on Sunday mornings?
5. Why do the drains at the bottom of Cliff Road still smell.
6. Were the people of Sheringham ever asked what colour the flower
standards should be? Come to that were we ever asked if we actually wanted them in the
first place?
7. Why is it that now Mr Shoes has closed down No one in town actually
sells children's shoes? Or baby monitors, unless you know different.
8. Why is it thought that only young people are thieves and hooligans?
Not in October this year, a young ladies bag was taken from a local establishment. The
only other patrons at the time were of mature years so think on.
9. Why does Sheringham not have a nightclub? Where do you expect the
younger element to go? We used to have one and it was open until twelve Midnight. Everyone
went so there was no walking the streets most of the night. Let's bring it back please.
10. Why did the town council spend £500 on the town crier's new suit? I
can't believe no one has said anything about it before now. £500!!!!! They've always
seemed a bit careful with our money up to now. Perhaps we should all put our hands out for
a grant? Mind you with this miss appropriation of funds thing still ongoing, perhaps they
thought they'd need to get rid of what little they'd got left whilst they still had it.

| Dear Ed
I have heard rumours and I was wondering which have credence and which do not? Does anyone
out there have the answers?
1. Have you heard that the residents of St. Joseph's close have up to
ten to vacate because those buildings along with the house on the corner of Cromer Road
and Cremer's Drift have been sold as part of Tesco's redevelopment of the area. The
for-mentioned house will be knocked down to be made into a round about as part of the road
entrance to the store.
2 St Peters Church is going to be redeveloped as well as the church
hall. Really?
The common sense view about parking restrictions:
All parking restrictions should be planned and implemented by the individual town
councils. They should have the right to say where, and where not to have yellow lines.
They should have the power to stipulate haw long the time limits should be. And most
importantly they should have the power to amend the current yellow lines themselves with
the appropriate funding coming from the national pot.
Each town should be given sum o f cash for this purpose annually. This should not be a
central governing role or be part of an external agency with road works such as this being
put out to tender. How hard must it be for a couple of council employees to paint a few
lines here and there when the situation arises?
We should not have to ask permission and wait goodness knows how long for this sort of
thing to be sorted out. We should have a "If it needs doing, do it" policy. We
might then be able to have double yellow lines where they are needed in future and some
where they are not!
