| Closure of St
Peter's Parish Hall |
| The decision to close the Hall was taken by the Parochial
Church Council at their meeting on 20th February. Individual letters, which include the
following paragraphs, have been sent to all hirers of the Hall. "As you have probably
heard the Parish Hall requires large amounts of money to be spent on it now and in the
very near future to bring it up to the necessary health and safety standards. These funds
are not available, and the Parochial Church Council decided that it was not appropriate to
try to raise the money because it was felt that the mission of the Church would be best
served by a facility adjoining the church building. "The Parochial Church Council has
become increasingly concerned that it would be failing in its 'Duty of Care' to users if
it allowed the Hall to remain open. Having taken advice it has been decided with regret to
close the Hall with effect from midnight on Wednesday 30th April 2003. This decision was
only taken after consultation with the congregation, followed by careful consideration by
the Parochial Church Council." The letter was signed by the Vicar, Churchwardens, the
Hall Chairman and the Hall Treasurer |

| SAVE THE HALL |
My name is WILLIAM RUSDELL of 'CHERRY CROFT', NORTH
STREET, SHERINGHAM. NR26 8LW. Telephone 01263 821392 or Vodafone mobile 07780838733. I
feel very strongly that those of us, who wish to keep the Parish Hall in Waterbank Road,
should pledge a sum of money to buy it outright. The updating of the hall to European
standards should realise a large portion of funding, from funding groups. Now, on Saturday
8th February, I made a pledge of £1,000.
All I would like from intrested persons is a small letter stating forenames and surnames,
full address with post-code, telephone number and your pledge. On receiving your letters I
will make a list and when a realistic figure is reached or near, I shall contact everyone
to arrange a meeting.
Thank you for reading this.
Mr William D.A.Rusdell. |
