The closing of St. Peter's Parish Hall may not be illegal
but it is certainly immoral and the haste and stealth in the way it has been carried out
positively indecent. The people of Sheringham raised the money to build the hall and
should, at the very least, have been consulted before any decision regarding its future
was made. Why was no public meeting held in order that their views could be heard? If the
building is demolished, does the Church intend refunding money to all those who raised it
and signed the back of the bricks used in the construction?
Planning permission regarding the hall has been turned down because it has proved
impossible to fulfil a clause stating that any current users must be found alternative
accommodation in the town. The Church has, therefore, decided to close the hall,
presumably in the hope that these current users will "disappear". Will this
clause still apply once the hall is closed and, if so, for how long?
As a Sheringham resident, I would be interested to have some answers, please.

| ACCESS TO THE
CARING PROFESSIONS |
| Are you interested in nursing or other aspects of care, in
returning to study, or did you think education wasn't for you earlier in life, and want to
have a go at it now? How about a course which offers to teach you about: |
 |
|
1. human anatomy and physiology
2. how the individual grows and develops as part of a range of social groups
3. personal health needs and how these are influenced by sociological and environmental
factors
4. the legislative/policy framework within which care is provided
5. basic research principles and an appreciation of these in the caring professions |
6. how to take an active part in the study process
7. reading and understanding relevant text?
This course aims to prepare participants for further and higher education in the
health-related professions. It is a unit based programme, and when successfully completed,
provides a qualification acceptable and recognised by all providers of higher education in
the UK. With the Access certificate, which is equivalent to three A levels, you can apply
to the university of your choice to study for a degree. The programme is open to adults
over the age of 21, and there are no formal entry requirements. Most students could expect
to complete the programme in two years, with two three-hour sessions per week during three
ten-week terms. Norfolk Adult Education Service is offering Access to the Caring
Proffessions in Sheringham, starting September 2003. A 'taster session' is planned on 26
June, to introduce the course and to give prospective students a chance to see what is
involved, how the course will be taught, what commitment is required, and to ask any
questions. To find out more please call Sheringham Adult Education on 01263 822170. |
