June's
Boutique - A Short History |
The place we now know as June's Boutique in Church Street
was built around the same time as St Peter's Church. Initially it was actually two
premises, a Bakery with a Bank next door, the original door to the right hand premises can
still be seen in the Boutique. The bakehouse was behind it and is now the base for yet
another local business, Glen Holmes Building Contractors. At this time, St Peter's Church
had a wall along the front.

In later years there was a garage opened opposite, we believe that Sadlers Garage was
demolished around 1988 (not an exact date). Can any of you remember Dora Brooke? We
picture her here and to some of you she will be a familiar face.

The famous photographer, Olive Edis whose work was
recently exhibited in Sheringham, took these photographs. Other owners of the shop have
included Miss Ebling and Miss Plewse.
June Cooper is one of those lucky ladies who possesses natural presence, no matter what
clothing she wears it is always just right for the occasion and imminently suitable. This
knowledge of the fashion industry means that she knows just how to 'dress' her clientele,
so that they too can achieve a measure of that presence. She also has a healthy and
well-developed sense of humour. Twenty-five years ago she went into partnership to start
Junes Boutique in Sheringham. This came about as a result of a visit to the premises to
discuss items for inclusion in a fashion show and she was offered the whole business! 10?
years ago she took sole responsibility for the boutique that has thrived regardless of
country's financial situation. This is due to the excellent choice and range of clothing
on offer all year round and in no small part by the greeting you get on entering the
Boutique.
You will get no pressure sales here, just a bright, friendly greeting, a lovely chat and
help if you ask for it. In fact June welcomes browsers. "I've always enjoyed visiting
the fashion houses and buying a variety of styles and ranges to offer in the town, and I
suppose I enjoy "dressing" my customers," June commented. "I have
always paid particular attention to detail and have steadfastly strived to offer value for
money," she said. Besides offering an extremely wide range of styles, sizes and
prices, she specialises in presenting her boutique windows to best effect. June has also
put her experience of 'dressing for the occasion' to good use in theatre productions, her
involvement in stage productions goes back several years. |

| SHERINGHAM
LIFEBOAT WEB SITE |
Chris Taylor, a member of the lifeboat crew at Sheringham recently decided to build the
station a website
www.sheringhamlifeboat.co.uk
This is definitely the very best Lifeboat Web Site we have ever visited and in the course
of our work, there have been many!
|
 |
|
It is clean and professional, quick to load and view and
jam packed with information for locals and visitors alike.
The site lists Lifeboat events for 2002, news items relating to the station, and has loads
of details about the station including information about all the equipment used, details
of the currant boat, and photos of the crew and station officers. |
There is also a comprehensive history page with details and photos of all of the previous
boats, a brief history of Sheringham, and there is a gallery, which will be filled with
photos of events/exercises/shouts throughout the year. The 'Shouts' page currently lists
details of all the shouts from 2002. However, if like me your reaction to hearing the
maroons is 'I wonder what's happened', you will now be able to find out as Chris will be
updating the site with details of shouts as and when they occur.
This would certainly be of interest to many people as they may hear the maroons one-day
and the next they can log on and see both why the boat was launched, and the outcome.
Fantastic! Chris intends to continue to add to it and expand it in the future (especially
the Gallery) so photographs and information always welcomed.
