Franklin Hill Project

The Project instigated by the Sheriungham in Bloom Team, as part of the Anglia in Bloom Competition. Started on 15th March with a beautiful sunny day, although the breeze was cool, the day was ideal for the job at hand. This, the first bash at cleaning Franklin Hill proved very successful and has already opened up the delightful views that once could be seen from the hill. The object of the exercise is to clear about 80% of the present growth and allow the heathland species to return. A further session this year will be held in September and again next year. Dates will be notified. 'Sheringham in Bloom' team were delighted with the local response, 11 volunteers turned out several tooled up for the job. Thanks must go to Clive Fenn, the one person who thought to bring a chainsaw, this proved to be essential and trebled the actual work we did. We were also fortunate to have a lady resident provide us with refreshments.

24 bags of rubbish were removed from the hill, a considerable amount of which was Alcohol Cans and Bottles. A particular concern was the amount of 'dog poo' in plastic bags. This extremely thoughtless act is really not on, the object is to clear up a short-term problem, and you are creating a long term one.

The District Council will, over the next few weeks be treting the cut stumps of gorse to kill them off. I would like to thank all those who gave up Saturday 15th for such a super effort, it is very much appreciated. Particular thanks to Mike Padfield for his expertise and guidance with the project, not only the day's work but for his fire watching in the evening as well.
Thanks to you all. Brian Hannah
