Do you ever have to ask someone to repeat what they have
just said? Imagine having to do that so many times that you give up and avoid people as
much as you can. That is the extreme reaction for many people with a hearing loss and most
soldier on, trying to keep a sense of humour, when people think they are DAFT not DEAF.
Shopping and transactions at the Bank or Post Office become a series of tests to overcome
if you have to ask for details to be repeated. Crowded shops with a lot of noise are a
real problem so the small busnesses in our town should be ideal for those with hearing
loss. It is just a question of the staff knowing how to spot someone who is having a
problem and having the skills needed to make things easier for everyone. There is free
information/advice available to any business interested in finding out more. After all it
is a fact that 1 in 7 in this country have a hearing loss - and that is only those who
will admit to it! Call the paper for details.
