STORYSACK
LAUNCH |
A warm welcome was given to all at the Storysack Launch in
Sheringham C P School Nursery on Friday 16th May.
Special guests included Norman Lamb MP and Marilyn Brocklehurst from the Norfolk
Children's Book Centre. Hilary Scargill wanted to thank all those involved in the
successful pilot project, from the parents who made the Storysacks, the Runtons and
District WI, Paston College representatives and local businesses who provided the funding.
Guests were treated to a Fancy Dress parade by the children, a talk by Marilyn
Brocklehurst including a story, the presentation of poseys made by the four year olds to
all those involved, and then a slice (or two) of delicious Book cake. There was an
opportunity at the end for other parents to have a look at the Story sacks that have been
made and ask questions as to how they could use them at home. We spoke to Gill Wells, from
Paston College. "This has been so successful that Paston College has started
Storysack Clubs at Southrepps, North Walsham and several other schools around North
Norfolk. Both the schools and the parents involved have benefited greatly. People have
been using skills they never would have thought they had, whilst some have found it great
to meet people and have a coffee and a chat with other parents knowing their children are
safe at the crèche provided by the staff at the Nursery less than 100m away."
"The quality of the workmanship and time spent in making these Storysacks had been
overwhelming" announced Hilary Scargill, "The parents have enjoyed making these
so much that they will be starting afresh with a new batch of stories in September."
