| Colman's
Mustard Van on Long Stretch |
On Friday 30th May this Colman's Mustard Van which was
built in 1908 left Sheringham on its journey to Hollesley Bay prison in Suffolk.
 |
|
Colman's owned about 60 of these vans which carried their
goods throughout Britain, but they declined in the fifties. North Norfolk Railway has
owned it for 30 years but have not been able to afford to restore it. |
|
The Inside Out Trust is funding the restoration work and this is the biggest project they
have agreed to undertake. They normally repair bicycles and wheelchairs in aid of charity.
|
|
 |
|
Inmates at the Carlford Unit at Warren Hill prison, Suffolk are the volunteers, and are
keen, as they have never done any outdoor work before. This is being done as part of their
Duke of Edinburgh Award and Millennium Volunteers schemes. It's hoped it will be completed
and returned within three years. We will be following the progress of the restoration
until its return to Sheringham.

MERVYN AND
CAROLINE
WIN THE SOUND OF MUSIC |
| Local baker Mervyn Thomas and his wife Caroline have made a special 'note' in their
diary - after winning tickets to a summer concert in a Norwich and Peterborough Building
Society competition. |
|
 |
All N&P's branches held a competition offering one lucky customer at
each branch the chance to win a 'Red Letter Days Experience' to promote its protection
insurance and face to face advice service.
Mervyn entered the competition at N&P's branch at 29 High Street, Sheringham. Mervyn
and Caroline live in Sheringham with their five children, Paul (20), Laura (15), Steven
(13), Sophie (6) and Kate (5). Mervyn wanted to choose the 'drive a ferrari' experience as
the prize and Caroline wanted to go to the Chelsea Flower Show, so in the end they decided
to compromise and go to a summer concert together! The experience includes glorious music
from a symphony orchestra, a bottle of wine, and a finale of fireworks. The couple will
get to choose the venue from 20 of Britain's best stately homes and castles. Caroline
Knowles is Manager of N&P's Sheringham branch. She said 'We wanted to raise awareness
of how we can help people protect their families with our friendly face-to-face service
and also give them the chance to live life to the full by winning a fantastic Red Letter
Day Experience! I think it's lovely that Mervyn and Caroline are going to enjoy the prize
together, I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time''. Mervyn said 'WE both wanted to use the
prize to do different things, but in the end decided the concert was a great way to spend
some quality time together, now we just need to decide which one to go to''. |
