ALPINES
Take cuttings of mat-forming plants such as campanula, aurinia ( alyssum),phlox, dianthus and aubrietia.

ARTICHOKES.
Pick heads as soon as they are plump and round and before they open at the top.

LAYERING.
Layer low shoots of camellias, magnolias and climbers now, by pinning them to the soil with wire hoops.

ASPARAGUS.
Stop picking now, even established clumps, and allow the 'fern' to grow and strengthen the plants.

PONDS.
Finish any planting, and float tender plants like water hyacinth and azolia (fairy fern) on the surface now that the water is warm.

POTATOES.
Water early varieties in dry weather to ensure even growth and good crops. Earth-up main crop varieties to prevent greening and help protect against potato blight.

SWEET PEAS.
Check plants for viral disease. If leaves are mottled and yellow and flowers blotchy, they are probably infected and should be pulled up and burned. Control aphids (greenfly) to prevent the problem spreading.

Embarrassing Stories

Sheringham Community Paper

It was my first time out with a new boyfriend and I was very nervous. I just wanted to survive without embarrassing myself and I was trying really hard.

He was very proud of his car, it was his pride and joy. He collected me for our date and we went out and took a stroll along the seafront. After an ice-creme we went back to his car to go to the pictures and I hopped in.

It wasn't long before a really horrible stench reached my nostrils. I has stepped in some dog pooh and had trod it into his nice car mats. Needless to say, the relationship ended!

SHERINGHAM TOWN BAND - PRIZEWINNERS
This is taken around 1946 in the year when the band won 1st Prize for East Anglia and 2nd Prize for the Midlands.

We believe that either the following year or the one after that, the band came 1st or 2nd in the All England. Does anyone know these bandsmen and the facts about these winning years? Please let us know.
