Norfolk Cycle Forum |
North Norfolk cyclists and those who have bicycles but rarely use them - are being invited
to get on their bikes, get fit, have fun and enjoy some of the Districts most beautiful
countryside. To coincide with National Byke Week in June, the North Norfolk Transport
Group and Cycle Forum will be launching a series of eleven weekend bike rides, which will
be held throughout the summer. ''All the rides will be led by experienced cyclists and
will follow country lanes and minor roads '' said organiser Alicia Hull, who is a member
of the Cycle Forum. ''Away from heavy traffic and in some of the quietest and loveliest
parts of North Norfolk, the rides will be ideal for young and novice cyclists, as well as
those who are more experienced, in fact, the routes have been chosen to suit everyone,
regardless of age.'' Most of the rides will be between 15 and 20 miles long, and a special
one for very young children will be between 5 and 10 miles. Riders are advised to bring
drinks and snacks, although many of the routes will pass pubs, cafes and shops. Reflective
safety jackets, provided by Norfolk County Council, will be available for all. This new
programme of summer bike rides results directly from the 'Cycling Parish of Year'
competitions that were held in North Norfolk in 2000 and 2002. Competition entrants
organised many different events, but the most popular ones were always the family bike
rides. For more information about the rides, please contact Alicia Hull on 01263 860518.

Although Mr T's Gym is situated in Fakenham, we thought it
well worth a mention in our paper. It is a good, old fashioned 'spit & sawdust' gym,
with no frills, but full of well maintained equipment and an expert World Record Holder to
help and advise you. It is dedicated to Power Lifting but also caters for people who just
want to keep fit. Ian Tudor himself holds many World and European records. Ian does a
tremendous amount for charities. Visit his site and find out more:

Sheringham 'A' -v- Thorpe 'A'
Saturday 24-May-03. A perfect 100 n.o. by David Worboys set the scene for this match
against Thorpe 'A' whilst bowling maestro Steve Hudson has done it again with the ball
when he conjured up a devastating opening bowling analysis of 8-4-12-6 that included an
all bowled hat trick in his 3rd over. This follows his 6 for 24 against Bradfield last
weekend. 49 year old Steve attributes his bowling prowess to bowling straight, on line and
on a length. Thorpe who visited Sheringham in this Alliance Conference match with only 9
players, won the toss and asked Sheringham to bat. Openers Shaun Walton & Alun Evans
got the Sheringham innings off to a good start putting on 37 before Walton, 23 was bowled
by Houghton. Newly promoted Vinnie Peart added 10 before Houghton had him caught. Enter
David Worboys who from the start was fluent, patient and watchful as he stroked his way to
a half century, ably supported by both Alun Evans (22) and Will Mellor (24). David
completed his next 50 in less than 6 overs with some hard hitting. Youngsters, 14 yr David
King (8) and 13 yr Wes Neave (18) continue to improve and gave firm support to Worboys
with a final flurry from Jon Neale (9 n.o. from 3 balls) ensured that Worboys was able to
make his maiden 100 by running a single that gave him the strike and David obliged by
striking the ball for 1 to the rapturous cheers of his team mates. Sheringhams score ended
on 242 for 8 off 46 overs.
The Thorpe reply was not long lived as the bowling attack of Hudson and spinner Bertie
Bacon ripped the head and heart out of the Thorpe batsmen. Hudson bowled opener Grey in
the 2nd over whilst Bacon had Houghton caught at point by Evans with the score on 9.
Hudson bowled his 3rd over and with balls 1, 2 & 3 bowled the next 3 batsmen to give
him his first ever hat trick. Hudson took 2 further wickets in his 4th and 7th overs and
ended with figures of 8-4-12-6. The only resistance came from Andurton who topped scored
with 14 n.o. but no other batsmen scored above 4 and with Peart bowling Spaxman with his
2nd ball of the 16th over, Thorpe had been skittled for 37 all out.
