Primary Nursery |
| It's amazing! Although for over a year now, there has been
a large building materialising between the Primary and High School, which can be seen
clearly from Holt Road, there are an astounding amount of people who don't know about it
or what it's going to be. Edinburgh Road, a Special Needs school currently based in Holt
will be moving to part of this site and renaming itself Woodfields. The other part of the
building will be the new home for Sheringham Primary Nursery. Car access will be from Holt
Road and pedestrian access will be through the Primary School on Cooper Road or Holt Road.
The size of the classes have now outgrown the existing Nursery and the move will provide
the children with superb facilities including access to a soft play area "which will
be great for the kids when it's a rainy day" said Lesley, Nursery Supervisor,
"At the moment when it rains they have to stay in and play, but this provides a
different environment." |
 |
|
"There is also a sensory room with huge bubble tubes and lights you can turn on
with a wave of your arm which will be great for special needs children but equally as
exciting for the nursery children" explained Hillary. "It's a dream come true
for me. |
|
I had the challenge of equipping our current nursery 7
years ago and now I have the luxury of equipping this new one. There will be new toys for
indoors and outside including a lovely two-seater firetruck. We've been involved in all
the decisions to make this Nursery look and work brilliantly for the pupils, it has been
very exciting, from choosing the blue flooring for the playground and reminded the
construction team that we will require children's toilets, not adult height to buying 3
computers including a touchscreen."
"It's still a little unclear until we see the budget for staff but we need to provide
a 1:13 ratio staff to children and hope to take all our existing team with us" said
Hillary. "Of course we will be providing a structured curriculum based on play to
cover the subjects presented in the Foundation Stage Curriculum." The existing
Nursery will be closing a week early, on 11th July, so that they can move all the
equipment to the new premises. |

Dear @ Sheringham. Re: Article issue 16
Put it down to old age, senility or just plain stupidity, but the line should have read:-
Put the light out Nanny, I want to see the dark. It had to be the granddaughter who
noticed my error!

| Hillary Scargill and the rest of the committee are making
the final preparations for the September start of the After School Club for Sheringham.
The research by the EYDCP (Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership) has produced
£24k funding for three years by New Opportunities (part of the Lottery Fund) and
recruitment has begun for the required team of NVQ stage II and III childcare staff to
support the existing staff. After our first report back in the spring, Sheringham
community, as requested has become involved. The Committee is working in partnership with
other childcare providers and now consists of Ruth Taylor (EYDCP), Hillary Scargill
(Sheringham Nursery), Michelle Arnold, Nicky Osborne (Childminder), Sheringham High
School, Woodfields School (Edinburgh Rd), YESU, Childminding Network, Pre-School Learning
Alliance. The Club will provide 24 places for 4-11 year olds in the Nursery (which will
soon be vacant) and 16 places for 11-14 year olds (up to 16 year old for children with
special needs) in the Drama Centre at the High School. Each session will run from 3-6pm
and will cost £5. Parents can claim tax credits to help with childcare costs. A Holiday
Club and a Breakfast Club are on the cards too, provided that the necessary funding is
granted. These could both be up and running in either October this year or January 2004!
The official deadline for a place at the After School Club was last week, but we have been
assured that late applications will also be taken into consideration. Please call the
Primary School for further details. |
