Dear @ Sheringham

I feel sorry for the youth of today. That doesn't mean I condone some of their antics and goings-on but where are they to go?

When I was young (I'm now a wrinklie) in Sheringham we had 2 Youth Clubs plus Salvation Army torch bearers, 2 cinemas, a rollerdrome where the Masonic Hall is now. Also a rollerdrome in Cromer and West Runton Pavilion dance hall. Since taking away "The Highwayman" there is nowhere for them only the pubs.

My two children went to the Highwayman and that didn't do them any harm. The police were always outside at closing time to deal with any rowdies, you'll always get 2 or 3 no matter where you go. The police could afford the time to sit there as all the kids were in there.

Also I feel for the much younger element. They do not have the freedom we had as kids. Can you let young children play out on their own or up the woods all day without worrying that some pervert will either abuse or abduct them.

A Sheringham Wrinklie (name withheld)

PS Congratulations on your magazine, very humourous and enjoyable.

Sound Familiar?

Friday night again, time to go out and meet the mates.
Meet up at the town clock as organised, nowhere else to go
Nip to the pub and see if there's someone, who'll get me a beer
They won't serve me; I'm not old enough.
Mate turns up in his car so in I get.
Music as loud as we can and round the town circuits.
Oh, some girls on the left, go a bit faster, show off.
Up the car park, meet more mates, race around the car park.
Mate off home, back to the pub, have another beer.
Kicking out time, something to eat
Too early to go home
'Hang' in the street
Police coming - bit of verbal
Go Home.
Sound familiar?
Year - 1982, so what's changed?
