Army Cadets in Cromer

Why not come along to Cromer Army Cadets?

It is fun, a laugh and you get to meet new people. It is also a good way to do your Duke of Edinburgh award. It is for both boys and girls aged 13 - 18. You don't have to pay for your uniform or to go; all you pay for is tuck and trips.

We learn drill (marching, left, right and about turns etc.), shooting, skill at arms (learning how to clean and look after your rifles), first aid, map and compass (being able to find your way from A to B) and sometimes we just have a good kick-around.

It is a great way to learn about how the Army works and an even better way of getting away from it all for a night. We go up in Cromer woods every so often to do fieldcraft (trying to find a camouflaged person) and to learn about staying alive in the wild.

There is also the very disciplined side of things, which teaches YOU self-discipline;

If you do something wrong or say or do something out of line you get to do 2 - 5 laps of the school grounds.

If you speak when the sergeant is speaking up in the woods, you have to climb up a 20ft slippery, muddy slope and then slide down again, which is actually quite good fun.

If you are very naughty or are caught doing something illegal you will be band from Cadets.

Every summer we go on an army camp and for 2 weeks we try to go up to the next star level (star level shows what level of knowledge you have), we are tested on everything needed to upgrade to the next level. You could even become a Lance Corporal or higher.

Previous Annual Camps have been in Blackpool and Yorkshire, and we took part in many events including canoeing, rock climbing, 15-mile walks and potholing and we got to go to a funfair too!
You might even be lucky enough to get your photo in the paper!

So come along and give it a try, if you can take it!

It is on a Wednesday 7:30 - 9:30 at Cromer High School.

SHERINGHAM FOOTBALL CLUB
This season the Club has seen changes in the managership. After the way the previous managers had left the Club without notice at Christmas the Committee were most grateful to John Kowalyk and John Carly for their help in stepping into the breach at short notice to see out the remainder of the last season.

Their appointment as manager and assistant was confirmed before the start of this season and they have assembled a strong squad to challenge for a top spot in Division 3 of the Anglian Combination league.

At present the 1st XI are second in the league to Fosters Athletic from Kings Lynn.

The ultimate aim of the Club is for a return to senior football in the future and a 5-year plan has been commissioned by the Committee for this aim.

Sheringham is fortunate in having facilities that are the envy of some senior clubs and the Committee, although small in number are constantly working hard to further improve these.

Sheringham Reserves started the season with manager Tim Parsonage at the helm, unfortunately Tim has had to resign the managers post owing to business reasons and the Club is indebted to caretaker manager Leigh Wells for taking over.

The Club wishes Tim well for the future and thank him for his help in the past.

Never argue with an idiot
Folks might not be able to tell the difference!
New managers Simon Robinson and Steve Simmons have a good squad available, a mixture of youth and experience. This has produced some excellent wins over the past few weeks, notably over top of the league teams.

As with all organizations in local sport the constant battle is with finance. More and more is required each season, the cost of running a Club gets bigger and bigger, we are indebted to many individuals and business's throughout the town who support us.

Special mention must be made of our four main sponsors, Harvey's Dry Cleaners, Norfolk Homes, Henries Garage and The Lobster Public House, and without their support it would be difficult indeed to survive.

The Club extends a warm welcome to Paul Moss and John Randall who have joined the Club recently. Paul is a highly respected physio who has attended to all players' injuries both home and away, the Club is most grateful for his services. John Randall has joined the Club from North Walsham and was joint manager with JK during his time with them; we wish them both a long and fruitful stay.
