| WHAT A SHAME -
BUT IT WILL BE BACK! |
For those of us who shop regularly at the Co-op on Church
Street, the sight of it now is just so very sad. The Co-op has been a mainstay in
Sheringham for many, many years, it began it's days, we believe, down Co-operative Street,
on the right hand side on the corner of Cremer Street. It was in it's day a huge concern
which sold amongst others things, food and clothing and was very popular.

I have been told that when buying an item, you gave your money to the assistant who
put it in a box on a pulley system, your money then went flying through the air to the
office where they would put in your change and send it back! Many of us still collect our
'Divvies" and save for special occasions like Christmas.
Work has already begun on rebuilding and hopefully the Co-op will be back sometime in
August, like a phoenix, rising from the ashes!
To the right you can see a really old (1939) advert for the Co-op which was in a Town
Guide.
If anyone has information or photographs of the old shop down Co-operative Street, we
would love to see them. |
